I have been on an ultra low carb diet (<30g) for about 3-4 months and low carb diets are great as far as insulin control and appetite control go. When you eliminate carbs you can expect to lose 5-8 pounds of strictly water weight pretty quickly. If you decide to go off of your low carb diet you can expect to gain about that right back. I believe a caloric deficit is still required to lose weight carbs or not but if you eat protein (30% or so), fat (65% or so) and carbs (5% or so) you will find that your hunger will be completely in check. Combine a caloric deficit with ultra low carbs and you will lose body fat rather quickly. Add in some resistance training to preserve your muscle. Good luck!

it's not. complete appetite control because of the controlled insulin and fast results if you are strict
  • Thankyou guys this really was a big help :) !!
  • It works great but makes you feel like $h1t for the first couple weeks

It works great but makes you feel like $h1t for the first couple weeks

this happens when people try to do a low carb, low fat diet.......if you eat plenty of fat, you will not go through the "carb flu"

I ate a high fat low carb diet and still felt terrible. I pretty much ate red meat, bacon, eggs, spinach, olive oil, and nuts. I wonder if I should have slowly weened myself off carbs?

It is up to everyone about what they want to do but I have also had results similar to this eating 120g of carbs a day. Eat at a deficit and you say you are too busy to work out but I believe exercise is part of it. Make yourself sweat at least 3 times a week and eat at a deficit and you will lose well.

It's been working for me for over a year now. I'm often not even hungry anymore until evenings, so I'm able to fast most of the day (and run while fasted... at least when it's warm enough to run without slipping on ice).

Personally, I don't even crave breads, pastas, etc anymore. Took maybe a few months for the cravings to go away, but then so did several allergies, skin problems, lethargy, and emotional issues.

I have 90 to lose, but started Monday and have lost 13.5 so far. I do feel a little "different" but this is only day 6. I do miss the snickers, cream puffs, pizza, beer, etc,,,but I can almost feel the pounds dropping off. Was still able to stay om plan last night celebrating valentines day. Had a great filet with 2 lobster tails, drawn butter, salad with balsamic vinaigrette and olive oil. It felt great to pass on the potato, bread, & desert. By doing this we were able to enjoy the awesome steak and lobster! Great denver omelet this morning also :)

I am staying under 30 carbs per day for now, but will increase slowly.

    Good luck!

all comes down to a caloric deficit.......low carbs just makes it easier to control hunger for the weak like myself lol

I've been doing 15-30 carbs/day now since the end of October and I've lost about 30# since then. Cravings for me are almost non-existent now, and have been after about a month in. White knuckle cravings have been gone since about 10 days in. I have to say, I look better, feel better, even *think* better. I love it.

I should add that I lost all that weight without any exercise. When I did add exercise into the mix, my weight loss was even more rapid.

It's difficult restricting carbs to 20g or less per day. I did it doing Lyle Mcdonald's "Rapid Fat Loss Diet." which is basically a protein sparing modified fast (low fat, low carb, low calorie). Lost three pounds pretty quickly in water weight.

Results were alright, and found it very difficult to deadlift and squat on a low carb diet (which makes carb cycling appreciated). I've seen some people have fantastic results using low carb diets, but for me not so much, so I guess it depends on the person's unique physiology. You still need a calorie deficit though.

It is pretty effective in obtaining a very low bodyfat percentage, however. I just normally diet until I get down to 12%, then release the low carb fury.
