So I have tried two recipes with the three grain tempeh and in no way did it taste good, not even a little.
One recipe was with curry and the other BBQ sauce and it really was awful!!

What didn't you like about it? Texture? Taste? Did you steam or boil it for about five minutes before cooking to prepare it, as is usually suggested on the package?

My favorite recipe cooks onion and green bell peppers in a skillet, adding sliced tempeh, and dousing the whole thing with BBQ sauce before serving over rice. It's also good crumbled and made into "meat"balls.

Keep in mind though, different strokes for different folks. The taste may just not be for you.

I just checked my package and it didn't tell me to steam or boil beforehand. I somehow don't think it's for me, but considering I did
use two different sauces to enhance it so I'd like it and still there is just something missing. I just don't see where it can be so appetizing. I was curious then if people REALLY enjoy it. I have to REALLY enjoy my calories to eat them. It's sort of like the green
smoothie...........I like them, but never with Kale............and you just wonder if anyone actually enjoys kale in smoothies. So, upon much research lately I found most people learn to tolerate it. I don't want to tolerate my food.............I really love food, but want to love
what I choose for sustainence and enjoyment :)

Nope! I bought three packages of Tempehy. 3 Grain, Soy and something else. It was horrible. I tried making croutons out of it. Horrible!!!!!

I heard you can put bbq sauce on it and because of the texture it will feel like you are eating a McRib sandwich from mcdonalds.

I doubt it'll be anything like the mcrib from mcdonalds, lol, especially if you already decided you didn't like it and was horrible. Sounds like it won't stand a chance again. LOL, my husband saw what I was eating and asked me if they were termite eggs, it is funny though.

I actually like tempeh. I use the original soy, rinse, break into pieces and mix with BBQ sauce (2-3 T) and marinate in refrigerator for about 2 days. I then mix it with sliced zucchini, onions, small red peppers, baby bella mushrooms, a can of low sodium diced tomatoes, spices of choice and top it with 1/2 cup grated mixed cheeses. Bake 350* covered for 40 minutes and uncover for 20 minutes. It's good then but better then next day as the flavors mix. (you can use 3 grain as well ).

I used to buy it for a class on plants that I taught - we tried to eat it but to no avail. I find it disturbing. Glad that folks enjoy it - I am all for a diverse food source but no thank you for me.
  • Try looking up asian tempeh and seitan recipes. I grew up eating seitan at least twice every week. My mother used to simply boil a few strips in spices and soy sauce, then serve it plain with rice and veggies.

Here are some more elaborate tempeh recipes I've used in the past:

Never used it buy I've seen people do like a bbq grill style on it... I think if I were to cook it I'd slow bake it in some bbq sauce then slice it into some strips and use it as a sushi filler.

I tried the 5 grain. I love tofu. I hated the tempeh. I couldn't even eat it. I avoided it in my stir fry all week! (I cooked ahead for the week)
