Bisquik ad on my MFP homepage?!?!

I do some exercise and eat breakfast and come on to log it all in, and I see a Bisquik ad with a "Loaded biscuits" recipe that sounds like it's like a loaded baked potato, but covering a biscuit. Torture! Just wanted to share that.

Websites use advertising to pay the bills to keep it free. They have no control over what ads will be shown.

I know. It was just amusing, especially since it sounds totally tasty. I may bookmark it for later.

I think I need to figure out how to plan better. Right now I eat a little here and there so I can eat throughout the day, but I think I would like to start saving up some calories for dinner so that I can eat yummies more often. I usually eat 150-200 calories per meal throughout the day, mostly protein and fats, but when I come across something that I really want to eat it is usually later in the day, and by that time I don't have the calorie allotment left to go for it. Maybe starting my meals later in the day will help me.
  • I always seem to get the ads for Pillsbury Crescent Rolls and Graze boxes.

Do you eat that way because you prefer it, or because you think it is better for you? I ask because frequent meals don't have any advantage over 3 meals or even 1 or 2 meals a day in terms of weight loss. They only way meal frequency has any value is in how well it keeps you in compliance with your calorie goals. I know for myself if I eat small meals throughout the day I am always hungry and more prone to exceed my calorie goals, usually by a lot.

the ads are targeted based on your browser history, so you see what the ad software thinks you're likely to buy

you can install an ad blocker on most browsers.... problem solved....

I am satiated by 150-200 calories for a little while (3-4 hours) then I have to eat again. I'm afraid if I eat larger meals less frequently then I will be more prone to snack between meals.

Is that based on experience? Why not experiment a little to find what works for you? I'm not saying lots of small meals is the wrong way to do it - it works for many - but personally, that would drive me mad. I prefer fewer, larger meals that keep me satisfied for longer. When I eat lots of small meals through the day, I find I'm constantly thinking about food and never truly satiated. Plus, having larger meals means I get to fit in more calorific dishes!

ETA: also, try a browser that blocks ads if they bother you.

    Me too. And alienware laptops

Eta I prefer a normal lunch and then a huge dinner. If I snack I'm always over by that amount cuz I still have a huge dinner.

I have an ad for Toe Fungus. That does an amazingly good job of suppressing my appetite!

The ads shown are based on your own personal search history. Mine is for a Dodge Ram.. And I get a lot of travel ones, too. Rarely food related ads, however.

I do workout videos on Hulu and I get Big Mac ads all the time. I've also noticed that I see a lot of ads for fad diet aids on MFP.

I too, found it amusing. Not very appropriate for MFP. Maybe it was a test.

I have AdBlocker installed, so I don't get any ads, but I'd uninstall it if someone could guarantee I'd get ads for mud runs!

I recently bought some golf clubs on Ebay, and am now seeing golf club ads just about everywhere I go on the Interwebz. As I type this, though, I am getting an ad for Medifast. Think that goes more against the grain of the philosophy of this site than a loaded biscuit! :drinker:
  • I always seem to get ads for pregnancy tests and nappies on YouTube... I've stopped being disturbed by it and started assuming it's led by one of my housemates' internet usage (I'm a 20 year old student with no boyfriend in a houseshare)

Most advertising on mainstream websites is targeted these days. The adverts relate to tags that cookies feed to the sitefrom your computer.

If you have a PC, use the Firefox browser with the addon 'AdBloc Plus' installed to clear distracting ads. I don't know whether this combination would work on a Mac.

I used to get "prepay funeral costs" ads, then it went to cars, then they were in French, and I was not searching for French maids honest Guv
