I started taking Jacks3d before my workout the last two days. It kind of feels like I cant breathe when I am working out. My heart rate got up to 188 today on the stair machine. I just don't want to have a heart attack!! So just wondering if anyone know on how high I can go???

Your body will let you know when you're reaching your limit. If you feel dizzy, nauseated, short of breath, etc ... back off. If you don't have a heart condition, train where your body is (reasonably) comfortable as you build stamina then build in periods of closer to maximal effort to alter where that comfort zone lies in relation to performance. Add distance or increase speed if you're running ... steadily increase overload in your lifts ... all in a plan to improve your fitness level.
What is often referred to as a "max heart rate" on machines and HRM documents is usually the upper edge of a training limit where the aerobic process transitions back to an anaerobic process. It's a lot of biochemistry and discussion of internal fuel sources, oxygen processing, lactic threshold, etc.0 -
ok, thank you!0

Stop taking Jacks3d.
I watched a documentary on such supplements, and the journalist took some, she was a reasonable healthy woman, and she experienced high heart rate and dizzyness.

Also, Jesse Ryder, a famous sportsman in NZ, failed a blood test while taking a similar supplement.

Jack3d is a pretty hardcore pre-workout, why did you start taking it? Especially if you're just doing cardio?
I wouldn't really bother with a preworkout if you're just doing cardio. At the very least, get a more mild one.
Oh, and 188 really isn't that bad anyway. I've seen over 200, especially when I was really out of shape.0 -

If it wasn't that she had taken Jack3d I wouldn't have been so concerned by that heart rate, as mine would easily get into the 170s when I first started working out.0 -
Also, I just noticed that you admitted to using phentermine in another thread. Phentermine is a pretty nasty stimulant and can increase heart rate by itself. Combining with something hardcore like Jack3d probably isn't very wise. I'd talk to your doctor about the drug interactions and such.0

Tricky. Lets make a distinction between actual max, which is who knows what, and max before you hurt yourself which is an easier question to answer. Safe maximum varies from person to person. I think they only way to actually know is if you get a cardiac stress test done in a clinical setting.
But you can make an estimate that will probably be close to your maximum SAFE heart rate, assuming no complicating conditions. The easiest, mostly widely cited formula is 220 - (your age) That isn't very accurate though. The better ones are slightly more complicated.
From Tanaka, Monahan, & Seals (2001)
HRmax = 208 − (0.7 × age)
So for you that's 186.3. Take it a tiny bit easier on the stair machine maybe? But that is just an estimate based on averages. People's max heart rate can vary considerably.

edit: wait...or you know, take it easy on the stimulants. o_O0 -
There is a huge difference between your heart rate going up because you are giving 100% to what you are doing and because you are taking whatever supplements that cause this.0

On Treadmill, incline 1%, Speed at 6.5-7km per hour ,I ran for 5mins ,before slowing down to 6.0km per hour, heart rate fastest at 175
If I do stationery rowing at moderate speed, it's only between 155-165,depends on how fast I rowed0 -
You don't take prework out if you are going to do cardio.0

Depends on age, fitness level and anything like diabeties/medication that affects blood flow, you';re heart rate is gonna be different to mine or anyone else's just like most things health related, you could always get tested to find out for sure, noone here can tell you for sure what your body can cope with

for me personally i don't want to know what my maximum is aslong as i am around 130-160 i am burning enough calories and dont feel my heart exploding or feel faint lol.
a year ago i was 111Kgs had Level 2 hypertension and my heart rate would reach 180 easily during exercise, don't know what my resting heart rate was but my Blood Pressure was at critical levels during exercise and well above normal during rest which aint good
now 12months later on the 22nd February i'm currently sitting on 32Kgs lighter no blood pressure problems in well over 6months and my average heart rate during exercise is 120 unless i jump on a bike then it's 145-170.
My father on the other hand is a Diabetic and tho he's healthy otherwise the combination of the medication he has to take for the diabeties (blood thinners etc.) and he's 68 his heart rate never gets above 115 when he's gyming0 -

your body getting there and it being good or not are too different things
just cause it can doesn't mean it should safetly anymore then people can do dangerous stunts or live dangerous lifestyles perfectly fine until something happens and they die but they were doing them perfectly fine before that moment.
as i said you can get tested by sports physicians or even your GP to see what your Heart Rate and Blood Pressure is likely to get to safetly.0 -

It's more than heart rate that needs to be considered. Your VO2Max, lactate threshold, etc... all play into the equation as to why you were having trouble breathing at the higher power you were pumping out. You simply were probably working out up near or in a training zone that had you go into your maximal aerobic or even into your anaerobic zone. Your body will stop before your heart does as you can only produce power for short durations at that kind of output and the inability to take in enough oxygen to fuel the muscles at that level will have them back off before the heart hits the maximum heart rate.
You can see a nice chart here that explains each zone, how long you can stay in each zone, and the symptoms you feel at various levels of effort and heart rate: http://home.trainingpeaks.com/blog/article/power-training-levels
Forget using the "formulas" for calculating heart rates. In most cases, they are not even close.
The one that uses your age is really off. If I used the 220 - 52 (my age), it says my maximum HR is 168. Yet, I am usually in the 181 - 186 HR range when doing VO2 Max intervals. Which also means my maximum HR is higher than that.
Sounds like your 188 was probably reached during a similar shorter duration interval (3-8 minutes is all you can sustain a V02Max interval). Or perhaps in a shorter duration (30 seconds to 3 minute) interval above that in the anaerobic training zone.
Typical symptoms from the harder effort traing zones: http://lwcoaching.com/power-based-training-levels/
Zone 4: You know when you are in Zone 4 as your breathing is labored, your arms and legs get very heavy and all you want to do is stop. Essentially continuous sensation of moderate or even greater leg effort/fatigue. Continuous conversation difficult at best, due to depth/frequency of breathing.
Zone 5: Strong to severe sensations of leg effort/fatigue, such that completion of more than 30-40 min total training time is difficult at best. Conversation not possible due to often ‘ragged’ breathing.
Zone 6: Severe sensation of leg effort/fatigue, and conversation impossible.0 -
Jackd is not a cardio pre workout. It's purpose is for lifting!0

Jack3D made me insane. I felt like I was on cocaine. I use a different pre-workout now, because I hate the crazy feeling. And yeah, none of those are for cardio workouts.0

I just got the Jack3d a couple days ago. I do know it is used for weight training and I was doing weights when I took it, but did some stairs after my weight training. I was not aware of how intense it was....so my fault in that department.
I do not have diabetes, I do not have high blood pressure, I have been checked out by a doctor. While doing cardio, my heart rate is always higher than 165. Normally at 170-175. Just got really high the last couple times to 188ish. So it just worried me, thank you for the responses!0
