How do I reach my goal?

Hey! I am a SAHM. I have three children under 5. So if I go somewhere, they go with me most of the time I was wondering how you ladies lost weight and what kept you going? What were your obstacles in the beginning? I have tried to lose weight for the past few months and then I gain it back. So, help and encouragement please?
I use to watch the biggest loser and it seemed like everyone had some deep *obstacle* and once it was talked about and cried out, they jump started their weight loss. Has that happened for anyone? I don't need to know the deep obstacle or anything, but a 'yes to the obstacle' would be good enough
Okay, thanks

Oh ya, a huuuge obstacle that I still work on every week I'm an emotional eater so I need to be cognizant of that always; I am a huge carb addict and so I had to find a diet that nixed that addiction. I've only just started this new diet, but I already knew that one had to deal with the emotional eating issues as well as find a diet that was easy to stick to.0

I am also a Mom who works part-time and has one child. I know the feeling of taking your child everywhere you go. My husband works nights and I work days. So if I want to go to the gym at night, she comes with me. It's nice they have a kids zone where she can go play while I go to class. One of my biggest obstacles was that my husband wasn't interested in losing weight and getting healthy. It was a journey I was going to have to do on my own. It started to became more about what I wanted and less about doing it alone. As time has passed, I have met a few of the instructors for the class I take. They keep me coming back and I enjoy the class. I started the gym in June and didn't really see a whole lot of weight loss. I had a ton of excuses why I wasn't giving it my all (no one to go to the gym with, work commitments, meal planning, you name it I had an excuse). I stopped the excuses and got to it. I also watch the biggest loser and have thought the same thing. Everyone has to have some huge meltdown before moving forward. Sure, everyone has baggage but I don't feel I have anymore than anyone else. I've learned to forgive and forget about things in the past.
As silly as some of these things may seem, they seem to keep me going and might help you. I have started a motivation board. I put on there little quotes I like, a count down to losing 10 lbs, my goal to fit into a size 12, anything that is motivational for me. It might be different for you but I look at it every morning. It is in my kitchen so I see it before I head out the door. At first I felt embarassed to put it up because I thought anyone who came to my home would laugh at it. Now, I have different feelings about it. I like the reminder of where I am and where I am going. I also put up in my desk at work my next 10 lbs. Everytime I lose lbs, I mark it off. I am 20 lbs down since really getting serious in January. If you want to look for more ideas, I found stuff on pinterest.com.

Thanks! I will try to try to ask myself why do I want to eat, and see if I can pin point it. Thanks for your response. This was helpful.0

Thanks!! I will try to check out the board I like how you post your goals. I may copy that
With the baggage, I got saved March 30th, 2008, so a lot of my baggage dropped right then. God has helped me to overcome a lot of stuff since then, but I was racking my brain asking "What else is there??!!!!" LOL So maybe there is something else and I haven't ran into it yet. But if I do, I will try to let you know what it is that's holding me back. Maybe I have lots of excuses too. I appreciate you writing me back. Now I have more questions and insight on some of the questions for why I do what I do. I know with a child and job it's tough, and time is valuable. So, thanks for writing back
Oh, my husband is from Yuma, AZ0 -
I have to tell you I had my crying moment this weekend. Every Saturday my gym has a boot camp. It was free so I thought I would give it a try. It is one of my goals for this year. On the final exercise for the morning, one of the instructors would give tips or pointers to everyone around me. She didn't skip over me just one time but several times. I felt like she thought this big girl wasn't worth training. As I was driving home, the more I thought about it, the more it had hurt my feelings. It made me feel like I wasn't worth her attention. It's not the first time in my life I haven't felt worthy. Now the question is, how do I deal with that. I'm not really sure. I have to say though it was a great workout and I'm still feeling the effects today. I'm going to prove to myself that I am worth it and go back again.
Maybe for you there just isn't that moment and you've already faced what you need to face. All we can do is take it one day at time, eat healthy and be active.
Where are you from? I thought TeaTimeMommy sounded a little British.0 -
Hey!!! I am JUST now seeing this!!! I had no idea that you had wrote this!! I had been checking to see if you were going to write back and was sad every time I didn't see anything! Wow, and here you were the whole time!
Friend, if you were in front of me, I would hug you right now!! Have you been back to the gym? Try looking at it a different way, some call it denial, I like to call it a positive perspective Maybe that was her way of motivating you. Maybe she use to be in the same situation or had seen others and knew it would motivate you to come in and kick some bootcamp bootie!! Wow! Boot camp! That sounds fun and intimidating! Good for you for going and getting it done! And don't let those negative thoughts get in your way, YOU ARE SO WORTH IT!! Look how far you have come, 25 pounds!!! That is amazing!!! You are doing great!!!
Thanks for the reminder to take it one day at a time, I forget that sometimes and well, it's good to hear So thank you!!!
Tea Time Mommy...funny you should mention it! I live in NC now, and about oh...a little over a decade ago, I lived in California and met this woman named Fran, who just happened to be British. I fell in love with the British! She was kind of like a British Mum Well, she got me hooked on hot tea If we laughed, cried, ran errands, etc., she wanted to have tea before and after the occasion. Everything was an occasion or an event, no matter how big or small it was, it was celebrated with hot tea. I have re-discovered my liking for hot tea, after saying good bye to coffee. There is something about a hot cup of tea to make a person feel energized, calm, or just cozy! It's fun! The kids and I, a few weeks ago, sat at the table and I gave it a go to teach them table manners while having *tea time with the kiddos*, they LOVED it!! My daughter and I pretended to be very proper ladies, and my son a sophisticated young man with impeccable manners! We wore small toys on our heads, and pretended they were hats, we had to drink our hot tea (they had chocolate milk) without dropping our hats! It was fun and they had fun learning and practicing manners They were 3 and 4 at the time, my son is 5 now, as of a few days ago
So, the name, Tea Time Mommy, reminds me to celebrate the occasion of a better lifestyle, motivate myself, check on friends, and enjoy a hot cup of tea!0 -
