I need to be 119-135 at 5'2"...I find that impossible for me to get to since the last time I was 135 was in the beginning of high school. From the middle of high school until I had my daughter I was 165.
Anyone else thing 165 is a reasonable goal????

Phew, I'm with you!
I'm 5'2" and my goal weight is 145 lbs. Right now, since I'm so overweight, I have been weighing and looking at the BMI info; however, when I get to goal, I don't plan on worrying about the actual number on the scale so much and I plan on focusing on losing inches and gaining muscle. I'd be very happy at 150 lbs with muscle!0 -
I'm with you. I'm 145lbs right now, but I'm trying to slim down and get toned for my upcoming wedding. 119 is ridiculous at 5'2", unless you have a tiny frame. I have broad shoulders and the thinnest I've ever been was 120. I looked ill and didn't like it. The fittest I've ever been was at around 138, when I played tennis competitively and did at least 6 hours of cardio per week (ah, my high school days!).
By the BMI chart, I was overweight then but was super healthy and toned. So really, 145 would definitely be reasonable. But remember, muscle weighs more than fat and in my opinion, it's healthier to be muscular and weigh more than stick thin starved and weigh 119 lbs.0 -
Try measuring your body fat% instead, that % should be at a healthy number. Just my opinion0

Nothing is impossible, but if you want to set your goal above that it's up to you!0

I would think that whatever weight YOU are comfortable at and feel good in your own skin is the right weight for you. Don't let a "chart" define you. My mother is 5'2" and she weighs 160 and looks just fine to me.0

I'm 5'2" and 164 lbs right now...for me, I have a long ways to go but I want to get down to at least 130. I know for me, that doesn't look too thin but 120 or less probably would.0

Is it?? I'm 113 at 5'4 lol.
OP, if I were you when I got to 165 I'd check with a doctor. I wouldn't trust myself to think that 30lbs overweight according to BMI was fine, I'd want to check. If the doctor says you're OK, then that's fine!0 -
Why not set your goal at 165, reach it, and see if you want to keep going?0

Good advice. Most likely you'll continue to see health benefits by continuing to decrease your weight to 135, but there is no reason you have to shoot for that goal weight right off the bat.0 -

It all depends on your shape, your body fat, your bone frame and so on.
I am not aiming to get to my ideal weight either and I don't care. Ideal weight is usually considered at 21 BMI but I guess that if you're in the healthy weight range and you feel okay it's not a problem. Unless you've got some diseases like diabetes or such. If you get to a point in which dropping 10 lbs is all about how you look in the mirror, you're not really obliged to do it...0 -
boo BMI charts. Find what's reasonable for what, what makes you happiest with your body, and run with it. While I think it's a good tool to be taken as a general recommendation, the BMI scale is based off an average and doesn't discriminate between fat and lean mass. To use myself as an example, I'm technically underweight according to the scale given my height at 5'6''. However, since it doesn't take into account how my frame differs from the statistical mean (my grasshopper legs are longer than average), it reads me as being below what would otherwise be considered healthy. The same principle applies to you.
TLDR? Throw away the scale, find what feels best for your frame :flowerforyou:0 -
I'm 5'3", so my healthy range according to BMI is 107-140. Here is me at a "healthy" BMI of 24.1 (136 pounds). I don't feel too skinny here.

BMI is silly. Due to it my roommate and another guy had to get checked every year while in the military. The other guy was doing bodybuilding competitions, while my roommate was a solid rock who sank to the bottom of the pool due to not having any real fat.
BMI said they were obese.
If you want something to aim for, aim for a bodyfat percentage, or even just being happy with what is in the mirror.0
