Willpower - Refuse that cookie!

Right so here goes. You have to be with me on this? Are you with me? Right then I'll begin.....

So I am working at home today which is never good as sometimes the cookie monster inhabits my body and always whilst making a coffee. I really ought to throw away the cookie jar but that would be unfair on the others in the house. I reached for the cookie  but spied the bananna. A battle of willpower ensued (and something I'll explain below) and the bananna won out (way to go right? ). Anyway that got me thinking about cognitive behavoural therapy and how could I do something else to distract me, change my behaviour, why do I always look for the cookie jar? what's the trigger? Change or forever be the same.....

Still with me?

Now I am known to be a little bonkers from time to time  . With the cookie in one hand I started to sing the words to Grease, You're the one that I want, :flowerforyou: and dance around the kitchen. Now don't ask me why because I just don't know :noway: . Anyway this duet continued with me ad-libbing. At the end of it I just didn't want the cookie and took the bananna. I'll always think of this whenever I think of a cookie and writing it on this forum helps to further embed it in my mind.

So for fun I got a copy of the lyrics and changed some words around. Go get your achilles heel food and sing this with it. You never know it might just work....... and if it doesn't then at least it's harder to eat when strapped into a straight jacket.

You:I got chills.
They're multiplyin'.
And I'm losin' control.
'Cause the carbs
you're supplyin',
are engergisin’!

Cookie: You better shape up,
and you have a plan
that’s all you gotta do
You better shape up;
you better understand
to your plan you must be true.

You:Nothin' left, nothin' left for me to eat.

Both: You're the one that I want.
(you are the one i want), o,o, oo, honey.
The one that I want.
(you are the one i want want), o,o,oo, honey.
The one that I want
(you are the one i want want), o,o, ooooo
The one I need.
Oh, yes indeed.

Cookie: If you're filled
with affection
you're too weak to deny,
meditate outta my direction.
go away.

You: I’d better shape up,
and I have a plan
I have a plan
that can keep me satisfied.
I’d better shape up
if I'm gonna prove
I’d better prove
that my faith is justified.

Cookie: Are you sure?
Both:Yes, I'm sure down deep inside.

You're the one that I want.
(you are the one i want want), o, o, oo, honey.
The one that I want.
(you are the one i want want), o,o,oo, honey.
The one that I want
(you are the one i want),o, o, oo
The one I don’t need.
Oh, yes indeed.

Repeat Chours 2x

I agree cognitive behavioral therapy is an amazing tool! Working on changing our thoughts creates altered behavior patterns that can last a lifetime.

Great job on the cookie vs. the banana brain switch!:flowerforyou::wink:

    Hah, funny!

I had a cookie yesterday at school because I thought it would be more sensible than eating a donut.

Turns out the cookie had 250 calories and that I should've had a donut.

    Sad!
  • LOL... Awesome! Maybe tonight when I see the leftover cake from the holiday I'll be able to go for the yogurt instead! :-)
  • Just woke up and this made me laugh!

Very cute ;) and funny... and now the damned song is in my head.

Cognitive behavioral therapy huh? That's interesting. Also, something a lot of people don't think about when they are reaching for the cookie jar.

I am a big believer that when someone is over weight there are underlying issues... traumatic event, the way an individual handles stress (learned behavior), etc. You are right though, you have to find some sort of a distraction to beat a craving. I always think ahead to what I need to do when I get done eating that way I'm focused on accomplishing another task before I go back for more.
