Lifting weight

What is everyone's opinion on just lifting weights and not doing any cardio?

    What are your overall goals?

If you are looking to lose weight and tone up, then you need to mix in some HIIT (high intensity interval training) in order to burn calories along with lifting weights.
  • I'd love to hear peoples opinion on this too

I don't do any formal cardio beyond a 15-20 minute warm-up before weights. It hasn't hurt me. I walk a lot and when I do choose to do cardio (dancing all night in a club or running for a bus) it's quite clear that my cardiovascular fitness has improved dramatically even without going out running or cycling.

a lot of people just do straight up lifting and get great results but i find these people also eat VERY clean.

i love using weights but i love eating pizza more lol so i also do cardio (running!) and HIIT and classes at my gym that incorporate both weights and cardio. I also go to a small gym that is very limited with weights so i use what i have and use the cardio and HIIT to supplement it.

straight cardio BORES me so much - if i'm in a class and we're doing it its not bad but being on the elliptical or stationary bike is just so boring to me. i prefer the running and HIIT.

why don't you try a few weeks of just lifting and see how you like it? then incorporate some cardio in there if you're not feeling it enough!

I personally do zero cardio, but lift as heavy as i can for reps. This alone gets my heart rate up to 170bpm a lot of times, so basically weight training is a form of HIIT if you are lifting heavy enough for your level.

And as for diet, all that i find important is the macros and calories are in line with your goal. whether those macros come from clean foods or not doesn't really make a difference to my body.

Depends on your goals. If you want to increase overall health, do both cardio and resistance training. People will say you can do circuits or you get your heart rate up, but it's not for an extended period of time generally.

if you're concerned that you wont lose weight, then dont be i lost my first 30 pounds in 2012 pretty much doing only lifting and no cardio.

now i'm doing more cardio (mainly running) because i also have goals to run 10ks and mud runs

My overall goal is to lose weight and build more muscle. I have heard that you can lift weights and then after a month incorporate cardio. The cardiograph I would do would be hiit. Or would it be better to do both but obviously lifting first.

If you are doing both in the same day and your goal is to build muscle. You do the weight training first.
Weight training does increase your capacity for cardio so you could incorporate cardio after doing a beginner's lifting routine.

Weight training is my non-negotiable 3x week.

Cardio gets fitted in when I can, and it's nothing flash - walking, running, swimming, all in 30 minutes or so a couple of times a week.

I push myself with the weights until I feel my heart is about to explode out my chest, then I have a rest and do it all over again
