Weight loss advice.

Does anyone know why my weight loss is really slow? I have been dieting for 7 weeks and I've only lost 7lbs. I know on my profile I have set it to 'lose 1 pound a week' but I've lost more than that in the past following the same plan, and if I change it to lose 1.5 or 2lbs a month then I don't lose anything at all because I'm not eating enough.
My diary is open and if anyone could have a look over it and give me some advice i would really appreciate it.

    1 lb per weeks sounds perfect, even above average. Be patient.

    I'd say because you have PCOS and because you aren't obese. The less you have to lose, the slower it comes off.

    BUT - slower weight loss tends to last, and 1lb a week is perfectly acceptable and desirable. Keep doing what you're doing. It may take longer than you would hope, but it will be maintainable, and you will be eating enough. You're actually doing great!

    1lb a week is very reasonable weight loss - you don't want to lose too much weight too quickly - unless you've got loads to lose, which, looking at your display picture, you don't. Continue what you're doing - the fact you're losing weight show's your plan is working.

    Just make sure you weigh absolutely everything you eat, this include all fruit and veg. I noticed in your diary you have '1 medium apple' - you still need to weigh this believe it or not. I never used to but realised that they change massively in weight - even when they look the same size. Anything from a packet should also be weighed, e.g. uncle bens rice. While one portion is half a pack, you may be over or underestimated what half a pack is!

    Don't be disheartened though - the fact you're losing weight is a positive sign.

    Yeah, I guess 1lb a week is good, I'm just being impatient because I'm going away in May.

    Oh yeah, and even though I've lost 7lb in 7 weeks, I can go 3 weeks without losing a thing, and then I'll lose 3lb in two weeks. It is so random!
    Gonna start going jogging as of next week, too.

    Weight loss isn't linear and a variety of factors, other than body fat, affect the weight you see on your scale. Things like water and digesting food can make a several pounds difference during the course of the day. It's also important to keep in mind that if you strength train and eat sufficient protein that the majority of weight that you lose will be fat. What you do not want to do, particularly when you have so little to lose, is to cut your calories severely in an effort to lose body fat fast, because then you are very likely to lose muscle and bone mass.
  • I don't do any strength training, I only do cardio.
    I don't think I have a lot to lose, but I am over weight. I am only 5ft 2" and before I started dieting I was 11 & a half stone, I am now 11 stone and I want to lose 1.5 stone or 2 stone.

    Hiya - You sound alot like me! I got on the scales this morning and I have only lost 1 pound. I was so annoyed, it usually comes off faster than this. I've been doing the 30 day shred every day as well as dieting grrrr!! I'm only a shortie at 5.1, so when I put weight on it really shows.
    My goal weight is 8 stone 7 lbs and I have around 11 lbs to lose at this rate it's gonna take forever!! I have read some of the replies though and it says better to lose it slower rather than faster. It's hard to keep motivated though when the progress is sooo slow!! Good luck with it though, I hope you reach your goal!

    Let me suggest reading Stronglifts, Starting Strength, or The New Rules of Lifting for Women. Weight lifting will allow you to retain muscle and bone mass while you lose weight, and since you are new to it, you will likely even gain some of both. The retention of muscle mass will give you the flat stomach and overall tight look when the fat is gone. Bone mass retention is critical as you age to avoid osteoporosis. I suggest weight lifting because it is easy to add weight little by little every week (progressive overload). Both my 8 year old daughter and my 41 year old wife lift with me. For my wife it meant getting all the strength back she had lost from chemotherapy, and for my 8 year old it is allowing her to grow up strong and healthy. It is not just for men.
  • Yeah! I get what you mean, my weight always goes straight to my middle, stomach, boobs, hips and back so I look really plump and chubby, yet my legs, arms and chest have hardly any fat on them at all! It's really hard to get dresses to fit me properly :(
