Video Gamer geek girl here!

Hi everyone!

I'm completely new to MFP and am now in some heavy need of motivation/help with weight loss. I've been having trouble keeping weight off for a long time now (Long time to me being 4 years since I gained back all the weight I loss) and am now really intent on actually trying.

My main problems with weight loss probably stem around the fact that I need to exercise more and eat more/healthier. I typically only eat a meal or two a day, and it's not always the healthiest things. Money is normally a problem (and that fact that my boyfriend can easily eat double than I can and I normally worry more about feeding him), so I can't really go crazy with food in most cases.

And there is also my minor obsession with video games. I'm trying to get back into DDR to help with the weight loss, but playing by myself can be boring.

Any sort of ideas/help/anything with food on a limited budget and exercising ideas would be absolutely wonderful!

Been there - got the "trying to feed yourself on a budget" hat, t-shirt, mug and everything else! ;)

What I did find though is that on the whole our diet was healthier when we were skint than when we had money, as we normally ended up going out and getting takeaway or ready made stuff when we could afford it rather than making things from scratch with proper ingredients.

We also used to make things that we could then use the leftovers for the next day - for example a spag bol today makes a great chilli tomorrow just with the addition of some kidney beans and chilli powder. There's also simple stuff like frying a chicken breast with some onion and putting it in a pita for a home made, cheap kebab.

Connect with some people on here and take a look at their diaries and see what you can adapt. Feel free to add if you want some motivation from time to time!
  • I've got all the clothes and the membership on "eating on a budget", haha.

Ohh, great ideas for food! Another problem is portioning, I've noticed - at least for me! I'll make bigger portions than needed, mainly because my BF complains about being hungry even after I've made a meal that would fill me.

And yes, I'll definitely take the offer on the add! Thank you :)

Yeah - I used to be like that - eating portions that would feed a family of 4. It's been a struggle to change habits, but strangely often I feel fuller now by upping the protein and being selective about what I put in my meals.

As daft as this sounds as well, try using a smaller plate or bowl ... there is something psychological about the relationship of the portion size to the plate - so a smaller plate make the brain thing the portion is larger than it is ;)
