Hi all, i am new and struggling,
This is the first time iv tried to lose weight on my own, and its not happening as quickly as i would like, or as it does when i go to slimming classes with no working out really
I have about 4 stones to lose iv lost 5 ib in my first 2 weeks of going to classes 4 times a week and eating 1200 cals a day, when i DON'T exercise i seem to lose weight quicker,
so its very difficult to get motivated to keep the classes going, i just don't understand it. i just want to see results, and iv never understood why take keep fit classes slows down my weight loss, guess i just need motivation to keep going as the scales are very disheartening

Hiya,
Don't get demotivated by the slow start - it will happen if you stick to it!
I'm no expert here by any stretch of the imagination, but are you eating back any of the calories you're burning from exercising? If not then there's a good chance you are undereating and slowing your loss. I know I've had the same in the past as well!
Anyway - keep going! It will come right0 -
The goal is to not only get the weight off but to keep it off. If you allow yourself sufficient calories to only lose about 1 pound (slightly less than 1/2 a kilogram) a week, then you should also have enough calories to feel satisfied and avoid any binging. This also gives you enough calories for you protein, fats and micronutrient needs and therefore you build healthy eating habits and stay healthy during your loss. It is also important to strength train while dieting so that you lose mostly body fat. Push it too fast, or fail to strength train along with cardio and dieting, and you lose muscle mass and bone mass along with the fat that you want to lose.
The reason you don't see the scale move as fast when you exercise is water retention. It's normal. Weight loss also isn't linear and it's best to just keep an eye on the trend line rather than daily fluctuations. My own weight varies by as much as two or more kilograms during the course of the day.0 -
5lb in 2 weeks isnt enough?! :huh:0

Hi Dana,
This time round for me is the slowest i've lost weight too, but i've stuck to it longer and feel better for it. It's not a quick fix it's a lifestyle change, be patient and it'll happen .
I know it's a bit crap at first but you'll thank yourself for it later, if you lose 5lb every 2 weeks then in 2 months you will have lost 2 stone.
Good luck x0 -
It is frustrating that it is slow but will definitely be worth it in the end. I feel that with any quick fix weight loss, it will just pile back on.
We would all like to wake up at our dream weight but lets face it its never gonna happen haha!!
Stick with it Dana. x0 -
You r doing great. 5 lbs in two weeks is fantastic. This is a marathon, not a sprint. Continue what u r doing and u will find the results in your clothes fitting better and feeling better. I read these posts everyday, sometimes a bunch of times a day to stay motivated. Log, log, log and don't give up.0

Thanks all, i know, i don't eat any of my excersie cals. but i have been eating around 1500-1600 on a Saturday & Sunday and 1200 every other day, i have been doing the below classes
Mon - Les mills body attack
Wed - Les mills body pump
Friday - Les mills Shabam (dance class kind of like zumba but i little more energetic)
Sat - Les mills body pumb
i thought i had mixed it up pretty well, but all advise welcome,
i will be sticking to it, as you have all said the faster i lose it the faster i just pile it back on i do know all this in my heart, i just need to stay focused i do feel so much better for it and iv only bee at it 2 weeks today0 -
it is frustrating and I think why a lot of people give up easy...don't! If you can muscle through this struggle and make it a habit you'll see the change.. and more important you'll feel so much better..and that with the journey alone. good luck

I finished 30 day shred and lost 2.4 Kgs which by the way everytime I weigh in I seem to be gaining a kilo or a few pounds. But, that did't demotivate me because atleast I know I am not going back to the same weight. Don't quit.0

i can totally relate but......
i have tried every diet going over a 20 year period, every time i came off the diet i gained the weight back and then some, i started mfp january 2012 and lost 87 lbs, but as usual i got fed up of dieting so stopped counting calories and logging, a year later i had only gained 12 lbs back and 10 of those lbs was over the christmas period, i restarted january of this year and have now lost the 12 lbs plus 2 extra
it may seem slower than other diets but believe me it is so worth doing
good luck and don't give up x0 -
Thank you for all your kind words0
