:3 question on mince beef

So I just made vegetable shepherds pie but when I looked at the back of the mince packet i was so shocked to see the calories and fat in it ..

it says on the front '' less than 20% fat '' I dont know if thats good or bad :3
but the rest is

cals per 100g 214
protein 17.8g
carbs 1.3
fat 18.3
saturates 8.4
salt 0.21g

the pack i used is a 500g not just for me did it for the family as well


I always thought lean meats was good to eat on diets .. now im not so sure .. help !!! :)

    You can buy all kinds of mince. I buy extra lean mince from my Butcher which has less than 5% fat.

    You should be able to find mince that has less than 20% fat in most supermarkets though. :)

    A pound of minced beef in my supermarket is $4 for 75/25 fat and $6 for 90/10. Ground Pork is fairly fatty too.

    What I generally do with higher fat content mince is to brown it straight away in some garlic powder, then drain it in a colander (sieve) & rinse the excess fat off. It doesn't seem to take away the flavor and I've been doing it for over 25 years. =)
