great topic! This could potentionally keep many people from wasting their money. We need more topics like these.
I tried those "Konyac root" capsules that are supposed to fill you up with fiber to keep you full. The only thing they did for me was give me chronic constipation and a terrible stomache ache. Don't waste your money!
Edited because I spelled capsule wrong.0 -
About six years ago I was totally in to the low GI fad. Lost 20lbs - fat and muscle. Got down to 169lbs and then stopped - guess what happened? I've come to realize that the reason it worked was because you are aware of everything you put in your mouth and of course you are cutting out lots of little calorie additions, which of course add up.0

i could list a lot that didnt work for me but they did work for others sooooooooooo ...:ohwell:0

I can relate to that too. I realized that the common denominator of the 1000's of diet books out there is, you guessed it, reduction in calories. I feel stupid for not realizing that earlier.0 -
that's the thing with these supplements. they all say to use them with proper diet and exercise.. so how do you know it's the supplements and not the dietand exercise you should have been doing anyway?

Green coffee bean extract!0

Back when I was a teenager, Yohimbine topical fat loss cream! LOL! Damn, I haven't thought of that in years.0
-
Raspberry Keotones ... while they weren't a miracle, I did feel energetic and less bloating. But it could have been a lot of other things contributing to that ... I guess I will never know .0

The Smart For Life "Cookie" diet.
Hey, just eat this tasteless diet square 6 times a day, then some tilapia for dinner! What could go wrong?0 -
master cleanse
trimspa ... I should of just spent my money on good cocaine would of done the same thing...0 -
Any diet that only lasts a limited time and does not lead to a lifestyle change basically will only work temporarily as you'll likely gain the weight back.
So supplements that you don't plan on taking forever, crash diets that you can't adhere to long term, super-expensive meal services...
That cuts out about 99% of them right away!0 -

I see a lot of this kind of defense/explanation of pills in this very forum and it's frustrating as hell. "I took them with a low-cal diet and exercise and they really worked!!" Um, what?
When I started paying attention to these things, the hot product was hoodia. Who's talking about it now? No one. That should tell people all they need to know about the latest diet pill.0 -
I was at walmart the other day looking at the weight loss section ( I know) I was kinda giggling to myself and about to walk away when a husband and wife walked up and grabbed slimquick pure off the shelf I asked if it worked she said she had lost 80 pounds in 6 months taking it along with exercise I decided to try it 100% money back gar. I have been taking it about a week and a half and I did notice I am not as hungry I know this is probably just in my head but I really do think it helps with my snacking!!!! Just thought I would share this is the only thing I have ever tried besides exercise and eating right0

I could go on forever:
Detoxes
Cleanses
Wraps
HCG
Juice Fasts
Cabbage soup diet
Alli
Just to name a few

Diets/Fads - these are created by companies that have a goal to make a profit. The more people using their product the more profit. If the product is short term use, then they are not going to make a profit for long. If everyone uses their product and loses the weight then the company will have no client base and be out of business. It is in their best interest to give you a product that shows short term results, but will stop working eventually. As a tool, maybe some of these products have their uses. But I would never consider using one because I understand that like all businesses, they are in it to make money, and they can't make money if they are no longer needed.0

My favorite diet fad: 500 calories a day diet with an injection of a pregnancy hormone. I had a friend who tried that one with his wife. He was miserable, dreaming of hamburgers all day while he should have been working. Of course they lost weight, but it wasn't good for long term, and they gained it all back.
The same friend tried another one where they were taking a pill that was supposed to block your body from absorbing fat. That one had some nasty side effects. They did lose a bit of weight, but in the end, they quit taking the pills and gained the weight back.
I am using Slimfast. Although I'm not sure that's considered a 'fad' diet. It's working for me, and I think it'll continue working for me. I love the French Vanilla!0 -
Does anyone know about SKINNY FIBER. I keep hearing stuff on that???0

I am so ashamed but I did the master cleanse. I lost 11lbs in 6 days and I got hemorriods from the salt water flushes. Which for anyone who doesn't know is chugging liters of hot salt water and since you haven't had anything but lemonade in days you instantly poop out warm water with lemon bits that sting your bum! Anyone want to try??
Oh yeah and I gained back 7 lbs as soon as I put food in my mouth and the rest about two weeks after!0 -

"Lifestyle changes" have the same abysmal rates of long term success and maintenance as temporary fad diets and radical dieting.
Regardless of how it's lost, the overwhelming majority of people either fail to reach their goal, or fail to maintain that goal.0 -
So true. I watched a co-worker of mine go "on a carb-free diet", he lost 20 lbs but his cholesterol and blood pressure were off the charts unhealthy due to eating red meat, cheese and dairy everyday of the week. He went off of it and has literally blow up 30 lbs.
Going low-sugar is the way to go and limiting processed foods but these fad diets only last for a limited amount of time. Going Carb Free is not sustainable and it's not healthy.0 -
I did Alli for about 6 months or so. What a waste of my money! If I'd only known the reason I was losing weight was because I stuck to their diet plan (eating 1800 calories per day), not because of the magic pills that block you from absorbing, therefore becoming fat. So much $$ I could have saved for better things. :grumble:0

sucker born every minute and for the first time in my life I feel like I SEE it in action.
Not trying to be rude or anything. But yeah.
I have never tried any diet products or fad diets. Exercise and eating less is the only thing I have tried and it worked pretty well. Using MFP to log my calories helped speed things up.0 -
Anything Dr Oz pushes...
I'll second that....after a few weeks of watching him I was completely turned off and disappointed.0 -
Oh my GOD...
- Alli
- Safron capsules
- Meridia
- Slimfast
- The elimination diet
My list is endless, but those stick out /:0 -

buyer beware of anything that contains acesulfame potassium/nutrisweet/aspertame....this is a bad drug, dont care what the FDA says. it is in almost every diet food/drink on the market.0 -
Does anyone know about SKINNY FIBER. I keep hearing stuff on that???
not sure but have a FB friend who sells the stuff and is losing weight. having said that, i do not know what other changes she has made.
like anything...drink plenty of water and reduce sugar intake....the big diet secret we all know and no one likes to do0 -

ha! I've noticed that too handy. Of course you are going to lose weight with proper diet and exercise. The one that gets me everytime is the little disclosure at the bottom of diet pill commercials that say, "results not typical"! LOL!0 -
Look at it this way. If there was something out there that really worked, everybody would know about it by now and everyone would be at their desired weight!0
