I am currently doing the Body Revolution with Jillian Michaels and there is a lot of lower body exercise (squats, crescent pose, lunges etc.). My problem areas are my upper thighs and my bum. These are the areas I DON'T want to build anymore muscle but want to tone and slim down a little bit. Any suggestions as to how to do this? CW: 145ish GW: 105 - 110lbs. I should mention that I am only 4'11" and had a baby about 7 months ago via C-section but have no problems doing any kind of abdominal exercises because of it.

  • Chances are you're not going to build a ton of muscle period, especially if you're eating at a caloric deficit to lose weight.

Toning muscles basically involves two factors:

    1) Having enough muscle for there to be any "tone" in the first place
    2) Having a low enough body fat for said muscle to show

So basically if you're doing some resistance training to keep your muscle mass and eating at a deficit, you'll get there eventually!

As mentioned, if you're eating at a deficit, you will not build any muscle, that's just a fact. The only exception would be in those who are obese, it is possible to eat at a deficit and build muscle, but that's the only exception. If you keep losing weight, you will "tone" those areas by keeping the muscle you have and losing some fat.
