maybe some will never have a flat tummy

ive been at the "journey" now for 5 months and many ppl i read lost and have a flat belly in less time than that and were bigger than me from the start. i really want a flat tummy, but now i think that maybe i never will have one, and the only way i would ever is through surgery :cry:

    i hear you... i went from 165 to 125 and even at that low i still had my belly... i think the way it is shaped it will always be there no matter how much i lose. :( its unfortunate but i guess there isn't much i can do
  • I have been dreaming of a perfectly flat and smooth stomach for literally as long as I can remember (yeah, I was a happy child.) but if it never happens I will settle for my perpetually perky booty and some nice legs. I live in the Pacific Northwest, it's only warm enough to show my stomach about two months annually but a good butt is a year round treat.

    For me, what helped was sticking to a largely simple diet (as in, a diet mostly consisting of fish, vegetables, eggs, yoghurt, cheese, fruits, sweet potatoes, nuts, seeds, beans) and doing circuits with weights, boxing and abs focused exercises. Some say you can get a flat stomach simply doing a lifting program of compound lifts, but I found that doing some heavy abs work, including classes, got me there very quickly, coupled with my diet and a caloric deficit. I find that eating wheat based products really does do a number on my belly flatness and so avoid those for the most part. I am sure some are fine eating those and still maintain a flat tummy, but for me, nope.

    My stomach was pretty flabby after months of binge eating.

    Depends on where you start, your level of commitment and how consistent you are!

    5 months? some people have been at this for over 36 months.

    Yes a flat stomach is nice but is it not worth celebrating the fact you are doing better today then you were yesterday?

    Patience like one of the comments says - I've been at it for almost 1 and a half years - give it another 5 years and i'll be sure to say I will have a lean core!

    I've been at it for about 8 months and the weight (nearly 2 stone) has disappeared from everywhere, except where I actually wanted it to go from, my tummy. I know you can't target areas for weight loss, but it is still frustrating and my only disappointment about my 'journey'.

    I do a fair amount of exercise, but it's all cardio. I'm in the process of getting some weights and plan to do weights, abs, etc (basically circuit training) in the house. Hopefully this will do some good.

    Everyone has already said that it's all about patience and there's no time-frame but, on top of that, comparing yourself to other people is futile. Every person's body is shaped differently and somebody the same height and weight as you will carry their's differently. If you have a high amount of estrogen then you'll carry your weight around your midriff/hips/thighs, some will be top-heavy, and others will have weight distributed evenly.

    Everyone has the potential to have a flat stomach (with time and dedication), just like everyone has the potential to be extremely under or overweight - but it IS mediated by genetics. So what if it takes you longer to get a flat stomach? This isn't a race and things aren't magically better when you have one. Every day that you stay dedicated, you're getting closer to your goal.

    i'm never going to have a flat stomach without surgery (excess skin), i've had this confirmed by my gp, and i'm ok with it, perhaps if i was younger and wanted to be showing my stomach off or we go on holiday to places where i'd want to wear a bikini then it might have bothered me more, i can somewhat hide my stomach, i'm more interested in a nice pair of legs and pert butt, my legs are getting there, just got to to about 5 million squats and lunges to transform my flat butt now lol

    Standing abdominal vacs and standing pelvic thrusts. Vince G. Larry Scott and many other Iron Guru's have made these claims. If your diet and training are truely on point, then I highly recommend you give these the old college try. Become intimate with the 2 movements, they can be done in private. Really flex and contract and squeeze. I also do 90 % of my abdominal training upright. Dumbell leg raises in a stable unassited dip position with a challenging weight really brings out the seperation in the pelvic region. And do not forget the hip flexor extension and contraction machines. I promise you becoming a master of these movements will help you if your diet and training are really genuinely on point. You can do it !!!!!

    You can - it is possible. It just takes a really long time especially for women as this is where our bodies like to hold fat. Our bodies are constantly in baby prep mode. If you've still got fat on your lower stomach its because your body fat isn't low enough/ or your bloated. Simple as.

  • I feel this post, I'm at 120lbs (a weight I never even considered I would reach at the start of my weight loss - even 126 seemed like a far fetched dream ) but I still have belly fat Q.Q started a lifting program a couple weeks ago and actually it's helping a little bit, I think everyone is right, it's just patience you need but I think anything is possible with the right attitude :)

    Hmmm, going against the grain here.

    I think some people are never going to have a flat tummy, particularly women who have had a few children.
    Some people will be fit and healthy but still have a rounded tummy, for some people that is their body shape.

    Just like some people with a large bone structure will never be skinny - they can be fit and healthy and within the recommended weight range for their height but never be rake thin, for some people that just isn't their body shape.

    I guess what I am saying is a flat tummy is not the be all and end all and may not be attainable at all for some - but if you are fit and healthy and within the weight range for your height, that's ok.
    Love your fit and healthy body as it is.

    I'm right there with you. I still have a belly. 90% of it is skin at this point. Heck I have two pockets over my belly button (which you can't see anymore) that are just made of skin, and just hang there... and same thing under. It's not what I had in mind when I decided to lose weight, but what can you do... No flat tummy for me.

    I think the bigger issue is comparing yourself to others. I've been here 3 years (different account before Sept 2013). It took me the full 3 years to lose 65 lbs. People I started with here are now fitness trainers and athletes, and I'm not even close to that yet. But you know what? I really don't care how long it takes me. I'm not in this for others. I'm in this for me.

    Your body is not theirs. Your life is not theirs. Celebrate their victories and do your best. Have patience, and don't ever give up on yourself.

    after having 2 kids my stomach is not the same for sure but after changing my diet and strength training it is getting there slowly!!
