Frustrated

I am getting really frustrated! My husband bought me a fit bit flex for Christmas and I have linked it up to My Fitness Pal. I have set a goal for myself and I am really trying hard to lose weight but I seem to be gaining! I am trying to eliminate the soda from my diet, I am down to 1 a day trying 1 every other day. I teach school and when I get stressed and have a headache that is where I turn to. I try to drink water but that can only go to far because I never have time to use the restroom! I also have a hard time going to the gym every night because I am either staying after school for things, have too many papers to grade, or am just plain tired. I have also been having negative calorie intake each week! Why am I NOT losing any weight!!

Do not stress out and you have to find time to slot-in for workouts,it will destress you mentally and emotionally. More frustrated you are, the harder it is to get weight in control..

I had been under your situation before, it's not easy but it can be done ^_^

The exercise will help you with the stress. Do you get an actual lunch break? If so, consider walking around or doing some kind of stretches in your room.

As for your calorie intake, are you measuring all of your foods? A common mistake is to assume we know what a serving is, but it really takes careful weighing and measuring for most people to get it right. Are you recording all of your foods and drinks, including fruits, vegetables, nibble and sauces?

Short answer: Make sure your salt intake is down and carbs are less than 20% of your calories. Otherwise, don't worry about it. Diets take time.

    Long answer:

The first possible explanation is that you are retaining water. This is normal, and particularly problematic with women. Make sure your sodium intake is reasonable, but beyond that just don't worry about it.

It is also possible that you are trading out fat for denser muscle. Contrary to popular belief, this is possible on small scales over a long period of time. This is actually a good thing, so don't worry about it.

The way this works is as follows:

A pound of fat is roughly 3600 calories. A pound of muscle is roughly 1600 calories. It is possible for you to gain muscle and lose fat at equal rates, which will keep your weight constant despite losing 2000 calories net.

But wait, there is more. It is also possible for you to *gain* weight while your body's total caloric quantity drops.

Example: It is possible for the following to occur
    lose 2 pounds of fat
    gain 3 pounds of muscle
    caloric quantity -2400 calories
  • I don't know what type of insurance you have, but I just went to a weight management class through Kaiser, and they gave some really great pointers... I actually had to cancel my gym memberships due to budgeting, but the MD that I sat down with said that any minimal movement, such as fidgeting and what not is even considered "something," as far as physical activity. Continue to keep your portions in control, limit your sugars, carbs, fats, and what not, and even if you cannot commit to the gym, make sure you journal.. "if you bite it, write it..." And really, really try to eliminate the soda.... it is horrible for your system... You can do it!!! Don't get discouraged!! you have a whole network of us out here cheering you on!!! I am just starting out, but have been taking lots of meds for headaches, and blood pressure, and now cholesterol, so I am trying to get myself in gear here too!! =) If you can ask your health care provider for something like the weight management, maybe they can give you the same information....? And it's not all about surgery...
