Jillian M 30 Day Shred Calves HURT!!!

So I just started the 30 day shred again and successfully did 2 days in a row. But the second day I got interrupted halfway through and I was soo mad because I was in the zone! Lol, but after my company left I started it over again, so basically I did it twice in a row. The next day my quads and calves hurt so bad I couldn't even walk so I rested. Today my quads are better but my calves are still VERY SORE and I have trouble walking, I'm limping and my legs sometimes buckle. I've tried stretching and massaging them but nothing is working. Should I try and just go for it today and exercise? I'm just scared my legs will buckle while I'm doing jumping jacks, if I can do them at all period lol.

I've done the 30 day shred before but I never felt calf soreness like this. Also my calves won't get muscular and big from doing the 30 day Shred will it? I reeeeeeally don't want that. I want cute petite legs.. not man legs.

I have the same problem. I just started again the 30 day shred and my calves hurt so bad, I can't do all the jumps. I did day 1 then had to take one rest day yesterday, I just did day 2 but it hurt. I hope it will get better with time, but it even hurts to walk. If anybody has any advice it would be appreciated.

What types of stretching are you doing? You can also try foam rolling them and see if that helps or take a day off from doing that workout and maybe do some low impact cardio instead.
  • What are some examples of low impact cardio? I'm pretty new to the whole exercise thing so I don't know what to do for anything lol

I have nearly completed the 30 day shred... I had the same problem in Level 1, painful legs etc... I carried on and it got a lot better after the first few days. The results have been great and the pain eases as fitness improves. I would recommend a bit of extra stretching afterwards.

This is called D.O.M.S. Keep pushing through and after 2-3 days it should subside.

30DS is a great quick workout....but I never do it consecutive days in a row (I start to develop calve and knee pain if I do). I'll intersperse other workouts in between. Example - 30DS on one day, maybe a 3 mile walk the next day, straight on weight lifting the day after that. Basically the way I look at it is - 30DS is a circuit cardio workout. If my workout schedule says hey it's cardio day - maybe I"ll choose to do 30DS or maybe I"ll go for a run. You don't really have to do it every damn day. There are other ways to burn calories - mix it up.

Anyway - if you are so sore you can not walk properly....take a break today. Or do some gentle stretches and some walking. Or maybe just some upper body work with some heavy weight and give the lower body a break.

Some examples of low impact cardio would be walking, hiking, biking, ellipitcal, swimming, Pilates, Yoga, rowing machine, and strength training.

Leslie Sansone walk at home DVD's (a lot of them are free on youtube)
Jessica Smith TV (free on youtube) has LOT"S of workouts. anything from yoga, low and high impact aerobics, HIIT training

If you do a search of youtube for low impact workouts you come up with a lot of options.
  • Ok thank you guys for the help :)

Definitely stretch your calves after each workout. I hate that she doesn't incorporate that into the video. Otherwise, it'll get better after a couple days.

ooooo, that was me last week!! For 2 days I walked around like an old lady. Luckily, I started on Thursday and I never do workout videos on the weekend so I had 2 days to recuperate. I got back on it Monday with no problems though.

LMAO... Let me TELLL YOU... So I just did day five... I am young... overweight but always had some muscle tone... I have had to take two sets of two day breaks from this. I make SURE I do the form and if I have to take a break I hit pause so I dont miss any of the exercise. The first break I couldn't walk down stairs and move my left arm, the second round I was walking like a pirate with a bootleg peg leg... literally.. I had to work through it today and I PRAY... I mean PRAY...that my body will adjust.. so I feel your pain.. not sure I am actually being helpful... but a little commiserating doesn't hurt =)!! Keep it up.. we want sexy bodies this summer!!
