TOM question

How much have you seen the scale move when it is TOM? I've been having a really hard time lately, but the last couple days I have been getting up and working out, drinking water and sticking to my calories. This morning the scale was up 3 pounds from two weeks ago. I know working out for two days isn't going to erase damage I did in the last two weeks, but three pounds, really?

I'm getting so upset, the scale just keeps climbing....I had done SO WELL, and now I just keep gaining and gaining. I bit my husband's head off this morning becase I was upset. I think if I can see the scale go down even one pound it would make me feel better....I'm on day 3 of TOM (actually they have been short lately so today or tomorrow may be the last day) when would I see a loss if the weight gain is from TOM?

I'm on my 4th day and I gained two lbs and I was really stressing about it too, and even though everyone tells you not too, its really hard not to because you put so much time and effort into losing that two or three lbs that you do get really upset about it!! I hope it comes back off after....good luck!

I always have HUGE fluxuation at TOM - I do not even log it because it is like 5-6lbs and is gone after. Usually the week before and during my period I fluxuate up then the week after it is gone. Eat a lot of water foods- vegis fruits along with your water and also I recently started taking Vitamin D3 and it has helped a lot!! Be kind to yourself and know that for two weeks a month you need to go easy and realize it is all hormones.

I'm in the same situation and feel exactly the same way... fingers crossed it will come back off. Good luck ladies!!!
  • I am on my 5th day and gained 4 pounds. Dont worry about the gain, it happens to most of us. Its just one of those perks of being female! :flowerforyou:

Dont weigh yourself during it, it will only discourage you.
Look at the weight you already lost! You are doing it right girl!!!

this month at TOM, i gained 7lbs!!! I was mortified. However, 1-2 days after TOM, it was gone :) hang in there girl, try to stay off the scale because it is VERY discouraging to see that, i know.
  • I was just beside myself this morning because of the #%}+~£]> TOM ...I go up alot too
7 pounds !!!! The scale starts to ascend the week before and is up until like 3 days after...and over the last 3 weeks I have really been a MFP professional and the scale was only 2 pounds up from last month....so I couldn't wait to weigh in after TOM....yeah right....the scale is like a big friggin' rock...it won't budge. I'm jus gunna keep my appointments wih the gym and MFP cuz persistence beats resistance baby!
Don't let it deter u, easier said than done I know, but it is water and you'll feel better knowing that u had the choice to give up, but instead took the road less traveled by... :)

I think we should stop focusing so much on a mere 1-3 lb. weight gain...especially during TOM. Our weight fluctuates that much regardless whether it's TOM or not. And if it makes us feel any better - a guy's weight fluctuates anywhere from 2-5 lbs.

SO STOP FOCUSING ON THE NUMBERS ON THE SCALE!!!!

If you stress about those couple pounds you're actually hindering your progress. Put the scale away and "judge" your progress on how your clothes fit.

    1. Eat 5-6 small meals per day (so technically you're eating something every 2 to 2.5 hrs.
    2. Drink at least 64 oz. of water every day
    3. Get at least 7 hrs. of sleep each night
    4. Do a mix of cardio and strength training each week...working out at least 5 times per week (3 cardio/2 strength).
    6. Cut out soda, processed foods, and reduce sodium intake
    7. Just keep going! Never give up on yourself! You are worth it!

Thanks everyone! I was tempted to blow my diet today since I was so upset by the scale, but then, that's how I gained weight in the first place, so I will stick to my calories today :)

Me, too. But the good part is if you notice you keep from gaining, or even moving it down at all, I get excited because I know it's really going to come off after! So I use it as a jumping point. Psyching myself up to get it down during the weight gain, so when it's over I've really lost. All in all, though.... meh... it passes...

I gain up to 8lbs during my period. It's just water weight and is very common for all women.

I learned a long time ago NOT to weigh during my period. Even if it's near the end and really light, my rule is no weighing if I'm using a tampon/pad/panty liner...whatever.

It's pretty common for me to fluctuate anywhere from 2-3lbs during that time, but I never stress about it. It happens every time, and I know it's just water. So long as I'm eating within my calorie range and working out, I know I didn't mysteriously put on 3lbs of fat. Realistically, I would've had to have eaten an extra 10,000 calories in there in order for that weight to actually be fat - so it doesn't phase me one bit. Definitely stick to your goals and keep with it, you can do it. :)
