Should I change my calorie daily goal?

K I'm struggling here, ever since I started to run it cuts my calories low. My goal is 1730, I've eaten 927 so far, and have exercised 1096 so far leaving me with over 1800 calories remaining. There is NO way I can eat all of those for supper, I don't want to miss out on my walk and cleaning tonight. Do you think I should change my caloric daily goal if I'm going to run everyday?

I plan on running at least 30 minutes to 60 minutes a day, in addition to my usual walks and other exercise.

I probably ought to talk to my nutritionist about this. What do you think?

How many pounds a week did you tell MFP you want to lose?

At 225 you could easily set it for 1.5 or 2.0 pounds a week and I think that would lower your calorie intake.

Try one of the TDEE calculators and see what numbers it gives you.

This is the one that I just got through using...

  • I have it set to where I lose one lb a week. Perhaps I should change the activity level on this.

Before changing your calorie goals, are you sure the intake and burn are accurate? If so ... then look at how you space your meals throughout the day to eliminate the huge total late in the day.

I know the intake are very accurate, I'm very meticulous. The burn are from the MFP site. I hope to get a fitbit one of these days to get those numbers spot on. I don't eat breakfast usually. Which leaves dinner and supper. I feel like I'm having to over eat on both meals just to not get MFP to scream at me for not eating enough calories.

There is a good chance that your burns are overestimated using just MFP inputs. Eating only two meals a day means bigger meals. A couple of snacks throughout the day lessens the caloric burden of your larger meals.

How exactly have you burned 1000?

Those are not very accurate at all, I'm sorry to say. The best way to be very sure of your burns is to invest in an HRM.

But in response to your original question, it's really easy to get 1,800 cals in one meal. Add full-fat cheese, butter, sour cream, nut butters, noodles, avocados and bread to your meals and you'll rack up the calories no problem.

Yep I plan on doing that as soon as possible. Just have a lot on the plate right now to get it, but maybe will have one next month or the month after.
  • Eat snacks and breakfast.

I will try to pack snacks for the day. To me that's doable. Just never got into the breakfast thing unless I'm really starving.

Second this. You are probably only burning a quarter to a third of those calories on an hour run unless you are doing hill sprints the whole time. I run 10ks in an hour and only burn 300 - 400 cals. Get a HRM pronto so you can estimate your calorie burn much more accurately before making any changes to your diet.

Yeah dont worry meal timing, meal spacing etc.
Your daily calorie goals are important.

I never eat breakfast, just not a morning eater. But love having extra calories for a good dinner!

What exercise do you do to burn 1000 cal? That's equal to hours of exercise. I only burn that much on a 10 mile run.

Please NOTE: These are the MFP stats.....

For the day in question: Here's what I did on Thursday. I've been sick the last two days and have not been able to run lately :(

Running (jogging) 6.7 mph (9 minute mile) - 859 calories
Walking, 2.5 mph, leisurely pace - 114 calories
Walking, 3.0 mph, mod pace, walking dog - 88 calories
Walking, 4.0 mph, very brisk walk - 84 calories

1141 calories, not to mention the cleaning of the house and the food prep, and a few jumping jacks that day.

You should be burning way more than 1000 calories on a 10 mile run =D
