If at first you don't succeed...

Hello MFP Fam,

My name is SchauminChanel, and I am not a stranger to the My Fitness Pal community. I am a serial crash and burn dieter, I go on a super healthy bland food binge and work out like crazy, lose about 10-15 and get comfortable, and BAM! Back to Fat LOL. After relocating from Atlanta to California to pursue my dreams in Fashion design, I quickly learned moving across the country can be crazy stressful. I became a hermit, and ate junk mostly out of being bored and some out of being too lazy to prepare healthier dishes. Last week I stood on a scale that read 221, and it hit me like a ton of bricks! I decided to go hard at improving my health, and my appearance (which if you haven't heard is UBER important in my industry :/)

So fast forward to today, I am currently pushing for an ambitious goal of losing 76 lbs in about 7 months. I reduced my calorie amount to 1400 according to the MFP app, and plan on aggressively working out; but most importantly have fun doing it! I have one gym buddy who trains with me, and even dances so dance lessons coming soon. I will be taking bellydancing classes, and also add some power packed cardio days. I know it wont be easy, but I am determined. Its like I look in the mirror, and know this is not how I want to look. I want to be energetic, healthy, spiritually whole, and ultimately feel more like the goddess I know that I am. Some of my friends support me, and some say its impossible for me to slim down to that size. I hope to prove me right, and them wrong. I also hope to make some friends in the process to share our thoughts on our experience, and keep each other accountable.

I hope my intro finds everyone well, and look forward to gaining friends while I lose! :flowerforyou:

Sincerely,

SchauminChanel

I was there and I am close to being there again. I could have written part of your story about myself.

    I was 225 in 2009 and lost 80 lbs.

Then I moved, got married, lost my father, and in the process gained half my weight back. I am currently 188 but need to be about 130.

Actually hoping to move to CA in a few years too but not for fashion or anything like that.

My advice is DO IT! However be careful about putting a time on it. You may stall, or build muscle that makes the scale not move. This kills motivation for a lot of women. Set a weekly or monthly goal but be careful about long term ones. Make them really easy to meet. This makes the early successes really encouraging even if you have a few weeks that you have done well but not lost.

    Good luck!

reading your post is like reading my own life, exactly the same weigh, I live in California too can I add you as a friend we really need a network of people on the same page.
  • Thanks for sharing your story with me! I get it stuff happens, but as long as we have the determination to get on track we are golden. I agree the time for my goals are ambitious, and I may not get there exactly on time, but I need the challenge! For some reason, as much as I am a hermit, I love taking calculated risks going for the gusto! At the end of the day its not about the destination as much as the journey! I have in the past experienced that lag after the first 10-15 lbs lost, but I was ignorant then. I want to this to stick, and therefore I have to challenge myself. So to summarize, I can simply adjust the goal when I cross that bridge, but for now I will just chase the seemingly impossible, throw a little caution in the wind, and just go!

Sorry for being long-winded, and please keep in touch!
