Do you guys ever wonder if its mentally unhealthy to be so obsessed with being healthy and fit? Some days I feel like its all I ever think about

I came upon this quote several minutes ago.
"Your mind is your most dominant force in your life, not your body; the body is merely an instrument of the mind."
I really like that quote. I think of how so many people focus on nourishing and physically training their bodies (which is important) and yet allow so much junk to enter their minds.0 -
Yes! I have been really successful at losing the weight, but I'm well past my goal and I CAN'T STOP! I keep saying I'll slow down next week, but I never do. I'm sort of scared that I will count every calorie for the rest of my life. Which is better than not, I guess, but it doesn't seem too fun either. Would really love to hear if others have dealt with this as well. I hope to settle into a happy medium at some point.0

If it worries you, seek out a mental health professional and have a chat about it.
It could lead to an unhealthy mentality. Or it could be nothing. But a one hour session to talk about it cant hurt.0 -
I think there's worse things to be obsessed about. At the same time, complacency about eating and lack of exercise is the reason for the vast majority of us becoming obese. So I will never go a day without thinking about being fit and healthy.
However it can become unhealthy if one starts to develop an unhealthy relationship with food and exercise. As long as you keep things in perspective you'll be fine.0 -
I think it's only a problem if you find yourself obsessing & stressing out over it. If you're working towards a constructive goal, it's not so bad. But if you're at the point where you're maintaining, or still trying to lose more weight to become below a healthy range, then that is bordering on an eating disorder.
If it becomes cumbersome, you can always take a break and come back when you're back into a good place mentally to continue.0 -
There's a great thread today which is asking 'why do people gain their weight back after losing and reaching goal. It's very informative and might be something you should take a look at. Many of the comments from people who have maintained their weight loss are still tracking calories and exercise just the same as they did when they were losing weight. The people that gained the weight back did not track calories or exercise so they gained it back. It's a lifelong habit that needs to be done to maintain.0

I worry about getting too obsessed. I really am thinking about it 90% of my time.
I'm giving myself rewards for reaching weights along the way and they're non-food related goals. A nice pair of shoes that I always wanted to buy, for example. I think that this will take my mind off of being obsessed with measuring constantly and thinking about calories all the time.
My ultimate reward (and this will probably sound weird to some) is that once I reach 125 lbs I'm going to shave my head. I've ALWAYS wanted to go GI Jane style and my boyfriend said he thinks it would be cute, but I really don't like short hair cuts on chubby bodies... soooo I'll get my dream hair cut on my dream body!
Having short hair will also be a constant motivator to keep the weight off once I reach the goal. Gotta play mind games with myself.0
