Metabolism Boosters?

I have a really slow metabolism (doctor has confirmed this). I was wondering which foods were great metabolism boosters?

I have read in a health/nutrition magazine that 3 cups of green tea per day burns 80 calories...not sure where the scientific backing came from. You are supposed to steep the tea for at least 3 minutes to get maximum benefits

    yeah.

Caffeine is a teensy metabolism booster. There is a teensy bit of caffeine in green tea.

If you steep it for three minutes, you've ruined the flavor, green tea is really delicate. It will be bitter.

Green Tea = place bag in *not quite* boiling water for 90 second to two minutes, tops. More than that and your tea will be b itter.

There are very few things that will boost metabolism for any prolonged time. Usually the small boost happens for a short time by irritating your body, then your body adapts and it doesn't work any longer.

Just a question, how did your doctor measure your metabolism?

The only metabolism booster that seems to help long term is exercise, in particular heavy lifting programs.

Heavy weights. As heavy as you can, 3 times a week. Guaranteed to boost your metabolism.

I used to have a really slow metabolism and it changed after 2 months of eating clean 80% of the time. I also believe water helps me a lot.

it was a strong theory after having a camera down my throat into my stomach after a fast! not pleasant!

I love lifting heavy! need to get back into it

I can't see how camera down your throat could indicate anything at all about a person's metabolism. If your doctor insists that you can figure your metabolic rate from looking at the inside of your stomach, I have just one suggestion......run, as fast as you can.
The most reliable way ( and even that is not 100% reliable ) to get a somewhat accurate measurement is to use equipment that measures your resting metabolic rate (similar to your BMR) by examining your oxygen input and carbon dioxide output. Several hand-held devices are available but these can be cost prohibitive, which means that you have to shop around for a doctor, gym or anywhere else to find one.

I saw on TV that running the shower really cold at the end will help burn more calories. Not sure if it does or not, but it sure wakes me up. I've been doing it for a couple of years, and find it is easier in the summertime.

    1. huh? more calories, you say? Um. No.
    2. Wakes you up? yes. So does green tea. ^^See above. oh, never mind, no previous discussion regarding the caffeine properties of green tea/wake up to the caffeine of your choice.
3.Cold showers are infinitely easier in warm weather...and the crowd said, "yep."

    Cocaine works. Amphetamines works.

Side effects are a *****, though.

If all he did was a camera down your throat, that is not in any way a recognized metabolism test. If something like this http://www.microlifeusa.com/products_weightmanage.asp?gclid=CJzIrt3t85ECFSOsGgodv1seww was not used, it is unlikely that this is anything more than a guess by a doctor. To figure out metabolic rate more is needed than an scope down the throat.

He didn't just put a camera down my throat i was under supervision for god knows how long and also seeing a dietician.. it doesn't matter.. i know there is no clear cut way of "yes your metabolism is slow" etc however as he is my doctor i take his advice (and the dietician's advice) as sound advice!
