I have been struggling with weight loss and depression all of my adult life and when I woke up this morning it hit me hard...I made the mistake of getting on the scale for the first time in a long time and realized I am now at the highest weight I have ever been. First I cried and then I took action. I took a before picture and filed it away to look at again in one month and then . I found a nutritionist and made an appointment for tomorrow...scared that I will once again give up and end up weighing more than I do now.. I could use all the motivation and support I can get...I am determined to get back on my horse this spring without feeling guilty for putting weight on him...silly I know but I figure it is a goal....my second goal is running a 5k. Oh I and I didnt lose that one pound yet....I was playing with my app and got that.

Welcome! MFP is a great place to come to help you achieve your weight loss goals. Making friends on here will really help to keep you motivated and accountable. Also check out friends that have open diaries that way you can get meal ideas and what's working for others. I have sent you a friend request so we can support each other. Anyone feel free to add me!0

Hey, glad you joined. This is a great place for support, advice and staying on track. What I've found to be the most helpful is to not focus on weight loss, and not think in terms of failing. My Fitness Pal (MFP) will track fat, sugar, fiber, vitamins, etc. So focus on one of those and try to get your diet to the point where you are meeting your fiber requirements or your fat requirements. If you do that you can have wins every day which will give you a faster sense of accomplishments and of being in control. Also notice how you feel - for me one calorie is not like the other. Sugar makes me bloat up and stop losing weight, spinach salads make me feel fantastic. Focusing on those things will help you learn to eat in ways that make you feel better. As a side effect you will lose weight.
You are going to eat the rest of your life. If you do go over your calories for a day, or don't log in for a few days, it isn't failing any more than you fail at walking if you trip or fall, or fail at breathing because you got the hiccups.
Thinking of your horse is great. All the "horse people" I've met have been some of the best people I've known.0
