i might have pcos but i dont know for sure...

ok so my menstrual cycle is very irregular. iv been overweight my whole life and ever since iv started my period it just sometimes comes and sometimes doesnt. the longest i went without a period was a yr and that was back in high school, but the summer after i graduated i started to diet and exercise and after 10lbs lost i stared my period again and i ahd one fora few months after then until i gained allmy weight back plus more. then i went back to not a having a period for months at a time and then itd just randomly start out of the blue... ok so recently this yr i went 6 months without my period and now all of a sudden it started after i lost some weight......

my question is, if i start a period after dieting and exercising do i still possibly have pcos or is it a good sign i started a period on my own w/o pills? i dont know. its not a color of old blood either its a lighter color, but it is heavy flow like crazy... any ladies with this problem can you please give me your input. i really dont want to go to the doctors if i can fix this problem with weight loss on my own..

PCOS isn't cured with weight loss. Proper diet and weight loss will help with the insulin resistance, hormone imbalance and better manage the symptoms though. You really should talk with your doctor to find out if you even have PCOS and discuss treatment options.

I actually had the same problem. I've been irregular since I was 16 years old. We're talking 9+ months without a period. I'd been tested years ago for PCOS by my OBGYN and I didn't have it. When I started losing weight in June, the next month my period came. I've since gotten it every month. So in my case, it was that since I lost weight, my hormones became more balanced. Once the hormones are balanced, my body began working as intended.

PCOS doesn't just stop and restart again with weight gain or loss, but weight loss significantly helps manage symptoms. While getting a diagnosis of PCOS isn't necessary in my opinion, it is important to have your period at least 4 times a year to prevent getting osteoporosis at a very young age. You should see your doctor.
