How does everyone blow through their plateaus?

A lot of people say to change things up - different diet or exercise routine. Personally I was always too lazy to do that and just stuck with what I was doing and before long the weight always started coming off again.1

I started something called the ZigZag Diet . . . I posted the link below. It totally changed my metabolism and I was able to lose the last 10 pounds. It seriously worked for me! I don't always follow the plan, and I go back to it when I feel like I start gaining weight. I move the "highest" day to Saturday since those were the days I was home and would tend to eat out or eat a higher amount of calories. Remember calories should still be filled with good choices, not just junk! I have heard of carb cycling too. I recommend that you Google it to do your own research. Good Luck! Plateau's are the worse!

I was stuck in a plateau HARD. Lasted almost a full year without losing anything. I invested in a Bodymedia Armband - best decision ever and worth every cent.
I mix it up now by going from 500 cal deficit to 750 and back and forth every few months. I change my exercise from intense to moderate. My food choices is fairly consistent, though once in a while I will "let go" for a day or 2.0 -
I haven't hit a plateau, yet. The longest I've gone without a loss is 2 weeks. A plateau is 4+ weeks without a loss. I only jog, so I upped my miles & I started losing weight again. I was too lazy to make a drastic change to exercise or diet.0

I bought a food scale and realized the problem had been that I was eating more than I thought. I'm back to losing now that I'm accurately measuring my portions.0

Quit weighing yourself for two or three weeks and eat as healthy as you can. When you weigh again you will show a loss. That way you won't get discouraged and will give your body a chance to adjust to your weight loss. This works for me. Good luck!0

Thanks for posting this Ben. Been in a plateau for well over a month now, and have actually gained a little back. I'm upping my miles, trying new recipes, and really working on counting every crumb I put in my mouth…hoping it shows here in the next week or so!0

Thanks for sharing, in a bit of a plateau right now so if in a week the scale hasn't moved I'm going to give this a shot. The first links a bit closer to what mfp set me at, second link set my calorie intake higher.0 -
Thanks for the responses. I haven't hit a full plateau yet, but the loss has slowed a bit. Largely due I think to an insane work schedule that has kept me away from the gym like I would have liked. I am also eating back my calories based on the advice of the site, and I didn't used to do that. The work situation has rectified itself... so I'm looking forward to doing more than just running again, and I'm only going to be eating back calories if I'm just starving... Which isn't typical... I imagine it'll start coming off again soon.0
