Syringomyelia

Hey! Anyone else out there living with Syringomyelia or SM?
If so, how do you handle your workouts when it comes to pain?

Thanks!

I've never heard of it. What is it?

It is a cyst or syrinx (same thing) on your spine. It can grow over time and damage nerves which in turn causes serve pain. It depends where on your spine it is located, some people have a hard time walking or some people cannot use their arms.
Most commonly cases happen after spinalcord injury - I was born with mine.

I just floated across this and I have SM as well. I was.diagnosed about 12 years ago but only these past 2-3 years I have been steadily and rapidly declining. One mention i will make is the syrinx (cyst) is not ON the spinal cord, it is INSIDE the spinal cord.

Rozay, where is yours located? I just had my MRI repeated, and now mine is from C3 to T12. Yeah, pretty much my whole spine.

I have been told exercise is a major NO NO. So what did I do? I went out this morning in 25° weather and attempted to jog.
And now I hurt ...bad..... I'm a dumbass.

Any one else have this PITA syndrome?
