so I weigh at home on my wii balance board and gives me a number then I go to the gym and weigh on the scale that I know is balanced and it gives me a number 3 lbs less. Ok I know immediately we all say go with the gym scale. But really which one should I choose? All along this journey I've used my wii board and that's what I'm tracking on so????

I do like the lower number but is it true? hmmmmm

What would you all do?

  • I actually broke down and bought one from wal-mart, since you are suppose to weight first thing in the mornging after you pee/whatever, that is your true weight. Not after you workout .... So I never make it to the gym first thing in the morning. Sooo if you want true weight go get one for your bathroom.

I would go with the Wii board. Just because this is the one that you have been tracking on. Also scales that are at a public place can be off from many users and being bump alot. But if the gym calibrates their scale daily then go with that one.
    Hope this helps

Each scale is different. You should choose one and stick with that one, it really doesn't matter which you choose. I know every time I visit my DR. they way me, so I consider that schedule more accurate than any other, although I also hate it more than any other scale too...

Well just my opinion, but as long as the Wii scale is consistent, I'd keep using that. 3 pounds isn't enough to really worry about as long as when you lose a pound, your Wii actually reflects that you've lost a pound.

I figure I chose to lose 40 pounds because when I look at myself, that's how much I think needs to be taken off. So regardless of what I weight right this moment, I want to weigh 40 pounds less. lol

I did have a scale at home though that was very inconsistent. Fluctuations of 5-10 pounds daily. Very confusing... that is what you want to avoid. But again as long as it's showing that you're losing weight when you're losing, then IMO that's all that really matters.

There is almost always going to be some variance in scales. The most important thing to do is weigh on the same scale each time, this way you can track progress.

True weigh yourself 1st thing in the morning before you eat, with no clothes and after you use the bathroom. Closest to your true weight.PS put your scale on a hard floor.. not on carpet

Whatever scale you start with, that is the one you should stick with on your journey.

When you're at the gym grab a free weight and put it on the scale. If the number it shows you matches the amount of the weight then it is calibrated properly. Then go with that one!!!!!!!!

I say It doesn't really matter. If you like the lower number, use it! Just be consistent in which scale you use and don't flip out if you weigh yourself on a scale that says you're heavier than what your regular scale says. As a wrestler in high school who had to consistently hit a target weight from week to week, I learned that there is no perfect scale, which means there is no way to measure your "true" weight. In those days, I always used the official weigh-in scale so that I knew how my weight was changing relative to that particular scale (because it was the one that mattered). I like to measure my waist and chest and neck from time to time to get a more accurate picture of my overall success.

I agree with everybody, just pick one and stick with it. I weigh myself at home on the scale I bought, sometimes they weigh me at the gym, also dr's office.... Everything seems to be consistent (all scales show I am loosing weight at about the same rate), so I just picked one (the one at home was the easiest choice obviously:):) that I use to update my weight here. Maybe when you are close to your goal weight, you would need to try to find out which one is the most accurate... :):)

I got a glass topped digital scale, new, and it is a bit goofy,

but I weigh each morning, and when the scale notes a loss I record it,

now sometimes I actually gain a bit, even though my diet is tight, makes no sense I know, occasionally it even stalls for 3 days, but then there is a bump down,

here where I live we have had a heat wave, and several winter storms, I have wondered what the air pressure might do to the readings and I am not very sure,

this morning my reading was .8 pounds lighter 2 hours later without any food or bathroom breaks, how I could have lost .8 pounds in 2 hours is curious,

it may be that the temperature in the room, I am a scientist so these things bother me,

all things being equal the math says I should be losing .4 pounds per day and that is generally consistent,

I can see the loss in my body, the scale numbers are fun, but the very most important thing is that I am now nourishing my body now, not poisoning it with salt and sugar and fat,

so weigh yourself daily or weekly or not at all,

but please eat healthy foods and drink your water, this is not rocket science, it works
