Log exercise or let Jawbone do it?

Being new to this whole world, I am becoming discouraged with finding accuracy in what I'm logging. I see people logging a 500 calorie burn from very brisk walking, but I've been letting my Jawbone UP log my exercise and yesterday it only deducted 187 calories! I KNOW I burned more than that on the 30 flights of stairs I did that almost gave me a heart attack... not to mention a 20 minute, 12 incline, 4 speed half walk/half jog stint... or all the weights I lifted... etc...

So, my question is - if I log exercise into MFP, I don't want to "double dip" when UP syncs to it. Suggestions? Maybe I should take my husband's advice and only use MFP to log food... :frown:

I mainly use MFP's app for logging my food. I use a Polar HRM when I exercise, but it doesn't sync to MFP, so log my burns separately on Polar's app. I love precise data so I don't mind using two separate apps for calories in/out. I think the only times I use MFP to log exercise are when I'm not wearing my Polar HRM and just going for a 30 - 45 minute walk to kill time.

I just got the Jawbone Up24 today and I'm still playing with it... I did try making up fictitious workouts based on my real ones and felt (just like MFP) the calorie amount was too high. I use an ellipticycle because it's the easiest on my knees and I usually override MFP's calorie count with the one displayed on the machine, I'll probably continue to do that.

One thing I have noticed, I've only been using it for about 7 hours now and I allowed a negative adjustment is it's taking calories from me. Tomorrow and the days after I'll be paying more attention since I'll be using it for a few days.

Off to the gym in a few, going to try to remember to use the stopwatch and see what it does for both my cardio and my weight routines.
