Going drinking this weekend, need advice about the week.

It's my birthday on Friday so I will be going for a meal with my family and on Saturday I should be going and getting drunk with my friends. On these two occasions I don't want to be thinking about calories and being in the red though I will still try and log.
Anyway my question is I will be working out as normal (an hour each day cardio one day, weights the next) but what do people advise in regards to saving calories? Do I just accept I'll go over this week or do I reduce my calories for the next few days and 'save' so that my weekend indulgence isn't so bad?

If you don't want to go too far off track, you could aim for an extra 100 calorie deficit a day. Or just enjoy yourself and not worry about it.0

What do you want more? Alcohol or Results?
I used to be like you...

I don't know if it's just me, but that sounds a bit harsh. I mean, really, what kind of life are you living if you don't go out and drink/eat what you want every now and then.
And I would take the earlier suggestion and try to be under the rest of the week. What I find important is trying to plan ahead so you don't wreck your goals.0 -

Agreed! It was my birthday this past Friday and I didn't eat a lot because I knew I would be drinking a meals worth of calories. And I ended up getting sick So Just accept you are going to go over. Eat well the rest of the week ... maybe burn a few calories before you go out0 -

Yeah gotta agree, that was pretty harsh. Who knows what the OP's usual M.O. is...this is a birthday question not a "should I go out drinking every weekend" question.
Personally though, I have not found much success in the "being under on calories all week to make up for a big night out" plan. I would if possible have smaller than normal breakfast and/or lunch, trying to pack in as much nutritional punch as possible for those 2 meals with a low calorie count...get in extra exercise, and then go out for the meal and drinks and ENJOY.
In my experience, an added benefit of drinking less and weighing less is being able to feel effects of wine/beer and liquor quite quickly so it only takes 2 drinks ;-)0 -
It's your birthday! Do as you wish the ONE day, then go back to your regimen the next day. my 2 cents0

Oh dear! suck the life out of the op why don't you. to the OP go out enjoy yourself and do not give it a seconds thought, a night out will not kill you, in the grand scheme of things it won't make a difference, people fail because they constantly do the wrong thing0 -

Hahah! This response reminds me of an infomercial or something....
Anyway, OP, go enjoy yourself! And happy birthday!0 -
It won't derail anything to go have fun. It will simply slow your progress. As long as you can come to terms with that, its no big deal. Maybe just make a different choice like Coors Light instead of Sam Adams...but hell, I say its not a bad thing to celebrate your birth. If loving beer is wrong, I don't wanna be right.0

I go drinking almost every weekend and I've lost almost 10 lbs since Jan 1st. I've also lost 3" on my waist and hips!
Just log everything you take in, and then go back to eating at a deficit. Add up all the calories you've eaten for the past 30 days and divide it by 30 and that'll tell you if you need to make adjustments.
HAVE FUN!!0 -
I can remember last year in May on my birthday I tried to plan ahead calorie - wise. The morning of I hit my first weight goal so I didn't stress as much. The night of I ate quite a bit AND drank a lot. Much to my surprise I woke up another half pound lighter. ..and hungover lol. Didn't throw up though. Enjoy yourself. If you have been "dieting" for a while, your body won't mind the occasional calorie spike. If not, just get back on it when you can. Cheers!0

Have fun, drink what you want within reason. Eat a decent meal before you go out, and chalk it up to Funsville.0

diet coke and coconut rum is pretty tasty and not too terrible on the calorie count. Then, drink it until you puke, all the calories are spewed onto the ground, not your hips! Ha ha... I am TOTALLY KIDDING!! (Before anyone flames me) Drink lots of water, that will help and then go dance your *kitten* off and you will be fine! ENJOY!0

Hilarious! But seriously, white rum and Diet Coke is about the lowest calorie per ounce you can drink.0 -
I say just go for it, don't stress too much. Have your night out and pick up where you left off, one night of drinking won't derail the progress you have made. If I had to give up alcohol i'd probably lose my s**t, a little bar hopping never hurt anyone.0

It's actually good for your body if you eat very strict and clean all the time to take a cheat meal or day. It may affect you in water weight, but as long as for most of the day you are good and still exercise, and it's only two nights, you should be fine. Birthdays are for enjoying. Just make sure you hop back to clean eating right after.0
