do i need a personal trainer?

do i want to start stronglifts but am scared of getting injured. i can't afford a trainer.

Try something else to get your confidence up. Maybe start with body weight exercises.

I would.. I think using your body weight is a great way of working out...0

Can you do one legged squats? One handed Push ups? Any type of Pull ups?
If not, then yes, you have plenty of room to benefit from bodyweight exercises.0 -

I started Stronglifts without a personal trainer. I watched a lot of form videos (still do, 3 months in).0

You don't need a personal trainer to get you started. There is a plethora of videos on Youtube, and especially Bodybuilding.com in order to help you out with form. Don't let the barbells scare you away! Lifting weights is a fabulous way to lose fat and tone muscle!
Edited to add: If you feel self conscious starting out when you go to the gym (I was too, at first), then try going when there isn't a lot of traffic, like in the early morning. Use the mirrors to check your form, and eventually you'll be lifting like a pro!0 -
