need to lose 10 pounds in roughly 15 days

I am a recruit for the national guard. I was recently informed that I do not make the weight requirements necessary for the national guard. I am 7 pounds overweight. I have basically 2 weeks to fix this. I do exercise and carefully choose what I eat, but I have not lost any weight doing so over the past week. Any help is appreciated!

I don't really think you'll be able to do that safely. I know when my cousin (who is an Olympic wrestler) needs to cut, she super dehydrates her self. But that's under medical supervision. And she can cut 10 lbs in two weeks.0 -
Depends. Do you need to maintain the loss, or is it for a weigh in?
Stomach flu has worked wonders for me in the past, but it's always back on once I start keeping food down. Not a weight loss plan in the least.0 -

You might consider calling a gym and asking to talk to a competitive body builder. I have a cousin that I haven't seen in 20 years who was/is a pro bodybuilder. I remember him saying that he had to lose amazing amounts, like 10-20 pounds, in a week before each competition.0

Um.... Being overweight doesn't stop you from joining, especially 7lbs. If that were an issue 3/4 of our force wouldn't be allowed to join... Hell, I was like 15lbs over.

In all seriousness.... To save the leg/foot/toes.... I'd beast myself on a treadmill, eat 500 cals one day. 1200 next alternate, more treadmill, more starvation, then night before weigh in drink a shed load of booze to dehydrate yourself. Then with the mother of all hangovers weigh in. Then pass out. But you might be 7lbs lighter. OR. Colonic irrigation- seriously your poop weighs loads.0

Yeah, the "do you need to keep it off" question is probably good. If you can get in, might see your doctor for some advice. I think that's kind of beyond the pail of most of the folks here. Trying to lose that much so fast could have some health consequences. Might google what the high school wrestling guys do to make weigh in. I remember them trying to sweat out a pound or two when I was in school. Always thought that was crazy, but for something like this it could help. I lost 2 lbs. doing a 4 mile run yesterday, presumably in fluid, as it was back this morning. If you can "cheat" like that, it's only 5 lbs you need in 15 days? That sounds doable.0

lol That could work. If you can see your doc, they might give you a diuretic if they're sympathetic to your cause. They might be if they give you proper direction for how to use it and you promise to hydrate right after. Dunno. Worth the ask. And doesn't come with the hangover. But that's a creative solution!0 -

You just need to get a weight waiver, as long as you pass the BS body fat measurement they'll waiver you up to 10% bodyweight.
As far as losing 10 pounds in 15 days, there is no healthy way to do it, and cutting off body parts will disqualify you from service as well.

I should also add that I got taped and was 3% over with that. I was told losing the 7 pounds would be easier than losing the 3%.0

Only way to lose that would be to take laxatives to lose water weight but it is not healthy or safe for your body and you could get dehydrated.0

you could go zero carb seven days before your weigh in and that should help you drop about 5-7 pounds (maybe??) in water weight…that is about all I got …0

I've dropped about eight pounds in the past two weeks just from cutting my carbs way back (because in order to make my protein and fat minimums, I had very few calories left).
And find some high school wrestlers (or similar) to give you their pointers on making weight.
ETA: I've read OP three times now, and I *still* don't see any reference to doing this "safe" or "healthy". Why are people assuming that's part of the question? He's making weight for a weigh-in to meet a commitment. There's nothing healthy about this in any way.0 -
You can safely lose 2 lbs per week. That would suggest it's entirely feasible to lose 3 or 4 lbs in a week.
Let's say you're carrying around 3 or 4 lb of water weight-- probably actually on the lower side of average.
So, let's see... you can cut 2 to 4 lb per week. You can also feasibly shed 3 or 4 lb of water weight the night before weigh in. (When I was wrestling, it was not uncommon to shed up to ten lbs of water weight in a single practice the night before weigh-in.) That's not to mention that most people are at least a lb or two lighter in the morning.
I'm really not seeing what's so impossible about this. I can't recommend it, but it's not impossible in the slightest, and it wouldn't even be all that unhealthy for some people.0 -
Honestly - if you didn't plan far enough ahead to meet the entry requirements for the job, are you sure it's really for you? Crash dieting seems like a sign of poor planning here. Maybe step back and think things through.0

Not really healthy, but as an only girl with three brothers who were all high school wrestlers...
Get a sauna suit from walmart fitness section. Jog and sweat. Spit in a cup the whole time. Weigh in. Drink a ton of Gatorade to rehydrate then eat.
If you want to do it less um, heat stroke inducing, go carb free for a week, As in all meat and veggies, not fruit or grains or processed food. Dont eat or drink the morning of weigh in. Be sure you have pooped... Call it good and then eat and drink.
Then put on your big boy pants, get serious about your new career choice, get on a reasonable eating plan and exercise.0
