My first time here - hi everyone!

Hi there! My name is Jen, and I'm extremely new here (I just joined a few hours ago), and I thought a little shout-out on here might be good.
I've decided to make the commitment to getting fit - I'm pretty heavy at the moment and always have been, I can't remember a time when I ever actually liked the way I looked, and I want to change that. It doesn't help that my dad, my sister, and most of my friends stay skinny without even trying - I eat better than they do and work out more, and yet I still weigh more! I'm fairly healthy - normal blood pressure, heart rate, and blood sugar, but I feel that the confidence boost I'll get from losing the extra pounds will make me feel healthier than ever. Being overweight may end up having consequences in the long term, as well.
My main goals for the moment are to cut down on snacking and work out more. I have a weakness for chips and chocolate, and I tend to eat when I'm bored. I do use the equipment we have in our basement a couple times a week (elliptical, free weights, one of those weight machines that has several exercises you can do...I don't know exactly what it's called), I don't do so as often as I should. Come springtime, I'll be cycling as well, but it gets so ridiculously cold here in Manitoba that I pretty much avoid going outside for 6 months out of the year.
So yes, that's pretty much my story! Thanks to everyone who's read this - if you have any suggestions for me, please let me know!

Hi Jen, my name is Pat. I am new to this site. I am trying to maintain a healthy eating schedule. Seems after 10pm I get the urge to snack as when I worked, I worked second shift and that was my dinner time. I need to reset my clock so to speak and not eat after 8pm. I too have exercise machines in the basement, but don't take the time to use them like I should. motivation is needed. I wear a pedometer that keeps track of my steps and that helps me stay motivated. Hang in there.0

Hi there everyone, Im Andrew I joined a little while ago but looking to improve on keeping track of my progress.
Would love to get some tips from others & share anything I may find helpful as well.
Hope to get to know new people & share a journey to fitness0 -
Welcome Jen! You're among friends. I recommend Friend Requesting as many of us as you can. Having sympathetic cheer leaders can be really motivation. You can learn a bunch from everyone else and at the end of the day, all of us big folks can really use some companionship any way we can get it lol. Best of luck in your journey!0

Hi Jen! My name is Tabby. I'm not new to the site, but I just started back up in January because I decided that I was not going to have this weight any longer. I would love to help you along the way and have you among my own motivators and motivate you the same.0

Hi MF Pals!
I've been using MFP for some time now, with the goal of reducing my blood sugar, controlling my cholesterol, keeping my arteries clear, and maybe lose a few pounds. I'm actually approaching my goal weight now, and I'm concerned about maintaining my goal weight long term. I've lost and gained a lot of pounds over the years; I don't want to do that anymore. Life's too short! I'd love to hear how others have done/are doing. Encouragement from and to others dealing with weighty issues is essential! Hope to meet a few of you on here!0 -
Welcome Welcome Welcome!!!!
You have great goals. What a perfect time to be re-starting your life!
I've been around for awhile and i"m closer to goal weight but I still struggle. I"m also working on my cholesterol. It has improved but could still be better. One step at a time!!!!
Feel free to friend me!!!!!
Anyone else too. I post daily and keep an open diary0 -

Hi Jen! Welcome to MFP. I joined a few months ago and it has really helped me lose weight, get information, and stay on track like nothing else has. Feel free to add me as a friend. Having people motivate you to keep working toward your goals will really help. Also, log all your food every day. It helps me to see how my food choices effect my calorie count. One more thing, don't sick to the 1200 calories MFP suggests, you will have better luck eating more than that.0

Wow, thanks for the great responses everyone! It's amazing to see the results some of you guys have had. It'll be great to have some support considering my family doesn't really need to take this kind of journey themselves. :P Oh well, what can you do.
I actually dragged my butt out of my room and worked out for an hour since I posted this, so it's a start! Will be adding you guys as friends, thank you!0
