Quality of protein powder

Does the quality of the powder take away from it's intended effect. I just ran out of the one I was using it was a cheaper brand from Wal-Mart, I didn't wonna spend too much since it was my first time trying it out. I try to get most of my protein from actual food but having the powder on hand has been useful. I'm starting a new strength training program so I figured since I need to buy more I might invest in a better quality one.

the big thing with the protein powders, in my opinion, are the macros per scoop. say you have a protein that is 25g protein, 6g carbs, and 4g fat, that give you a total of 35g. now look at the serving size of a scoop in grams, it will be listed on the label. say the scoop is 42g serving, now you are looking at 7g of fillers. i will bet most of those 7g will be maltodextrin. i personally use dymatize and love it. its a 33g scoop with 25g protein, 4g carbs, and 2g fat per scoop. so 2g fillers, but no maltodextrin. it mixes great, tastes great. i get mine from www.allstarhealth.com excellent pricing and flavor selection. i usually buy a 10lb box for about 85.00 or 8.50 per lb, so if you do the math its really not much more per pound than the body fortress stuff from walmart. i think the body fortress is like 16.00 for 2lb or 8.00 per lb. hope my rambling helps out.0

If you're using it to supplement your diet, like you are, it won't make much difference in the grand scheme of things unless you're an athlete.0
