I have been involved in a fitness challenge over the past several weeks and this Saturday is my final class and will be my final measurements. I feel as if I have met my goal but I am not going to weigh myself between now and then. I want to be surprised when I see that I not only met my goal but surpassed it

I am looking for a little advice for the day before and morning of the challenge. Obviously, I want to be at my lightest but with the energy to sustain the final boot camp which is an hour solid of calisthenics / cardio and body weight drills as well as an hour of kickboxing. I have been eating all of the right things this week and my thought is to eat a healthy & hearty breakfast tomorrow morning (Friday) and then lemon/water fast for the remainder of the day and evening. Saturday morning about two hours before my measurements and boot camp I plan to have a Wheybolic drink and a Greek yogurt with some fruit and nuts. I am thinking this will give me the energy I need for the class but won't weigh me down at all for measurements.

I could be totally wrong.... any advice or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks!

I usually have half a banana or a handful of nuts immediately before an hour workout which gets me through

Hmmmm, I was a competitive freestyle wrestler.....I cut weight for competitions all the time, I could easily do 20 lbs in a week, I would have no problem doing 8-10 lbs in the last day, I'm just not sure you want to do something like that. I would say you would be best to eat and drink normally throughout all days, including the day of the weigh in, or else you can't be surprised at your loss because its not accurate. Weight is a terrible marker for success anyways, I would be more interested in your objective fitness markers.

Is there a prize for the winner of the challenge? or is this just for personal pride? if it is a contest with a prize, there is things you can do to stack things in your favor, if not, there is not much point in not eating and drinking normally

You could limit your carbs today and tomorrow to cut out some water weight, and make sure to watch sodium levels. I would not recommend fasting (or mostly fasting) the day before a bootcamp style workout. You need the calories to fuel your workout. It would be nice to win, but is it worth it if you can't finish the workout? That's a decision you'll have to make.

im a large guy, a heavyweight wrestler so 8-10 lbs was doable. In a 2 hr practice I would regularly sweat out 5-8 lbs, but I would be hydrating right away. I checked my weight all the time, before and after practice, not pulling your leg

    Thank you, I hear you.
Yes, I planned on no carbs or limiting more than I do and little to no sodium but tons of water to flush out. And yes, I was on the fence about fasting...

Maybe it would be good to step back and define what your over-arching goal for this program is.

If getting the lowest possible number on the scale is the most important thing to you, then sure, do your lemon water purge or whatever. Just know this may not be best for your workout performance.

Personally I have tried to get away from scale numbers as a primary motivator because for me at least it has not proved to be a healthy way to think about fitness and well-being. I have done much better focusing on having a great workout, improving my swim times or run times, etc.

So if I were in your shoes, I would eat the way I'd normally eat if my goal was to have the best workout possible and a great day.

Thank you. Let me be clear that the number is just a short term goal. I don't plan on sustaining the number because it won't be healthy... I just want to see if I can push myself and hit it. It is also just one small personal challenge as part of the bigger picture. I had set, and accomplished two other goals as well.
