Working out twice a day....is it ok?

I have recently started a new gym and have been going twice a day. My new routine consists of:

Morning
spinning (3 xs a week)
step class(1x)
yoga (1x)
kick boxing (1x)
Core (1x)

Evening (about 3-4xs a week)
yoga
body pump class
body combat

Is it ok to double up?

TIA

  • yea - totally fine- just make sure you eat enough - drinking enough water, getting plenty of sleep, and avoid over-exhaustion - remember to rest every once in a while!

I always worry about calories. I usually try to keep it around 1,500 calories total. I get about 7.5 hours of sleep (I try for 8) and count my yoga days as rest days. Thanks for your response.

As none of your workouts are high impact or lifting heavy you're probably just fine, monitor yourself for signs of fatigue (take a rest day periodically if you do start feeling run down) +1 on getting plenty of sleep

No problems with that. Just make sure you are fuelling your body adequately throughout the day :)

I am just coming out of a lifting routine because I need to slim down some. It is mostly cardio and yes...nothing high impact. If weights are used they are very light because it is all aerobic/cardio. I plan on eventually keeping the morning routine and adding the strength training back in 3 evenings a week. Thanks!!

Wow, that sounds like a lot! Looks like you're really motivated. If you feel like you can do that, it's probably ok. Keep an eye on signs of overtraining. This can include persistent muscle soreness, elevated heart rate even at rest, irritability, depression, lack of motivation, decreased appetite or insomnia.

Stay well hydrated, eat back at least some of your exercise calories and get plenty of sleep. I'd recommend one day of complete rest a week. Good luck and have fun!

I have friends and co-workers who say I overdo it but I figure my body would let me know if it was too much. I am trying to fit a rest day in...might have to request for the gym to change their class schedule  Thnak you!
