Splitting up Cardio

Because of my schedule, I can't join a gym, so I do my cardio at home. I do 30 minutes on my bike in the morning, and try to do at least 15 minutes later in the day.

Is this ok?

I keep my heart rate up in the 130-150 range every time and feel pretty spent afterwards. Right now all I have is a bike, I plan on buying an elliptical soon, and I will try to start walking as well.

Does anyone else practice this as well?

Nothing wrong with your method, the best exercise is the one(s) you will do and have time for - and presumably enjoy.

    Thanks!

There's just so much MISinformation on the internet, so everything you read conflicts something else you read! So I figured I might get better info here!

Well, don't know about that. MFP has good and not so good.

I've read that splitting up cardio into 20 minute increments is actually beneficial, but I couldn't tell you where I read that, and it may be false.

I just think - in all of this - that you have to do what you can to squeeze in exercise, whenever you want. Same with food choices and meal timing, do what you can that fits in your life. There are very few absolutes when it comes to a lot of this stuff. Listen to your inner voice.

If splitting it up works for you, continue it. The key is that you do something almost every day!

 I bet if you asked this question to five doctors, five Personal Trainers, five nutritionists, and five random people on the street, you'd get answers all over the place.

Consider this website to be a little like that.

Will do! It's working so far, so I don't see why I should change it!

That is exactly how I started my exercise journey a year ago. 15 minutes a day was all I could do at first. As my stamina and strength increased over time, I was able to do more and more and more. Track your calories, try to measure your steps too, that is one of the easiest ways to keep active and burn calories.

Sounds pretty good to me. I personally love biking as my cardio. It's the first exercise I started doing when I first began trying to lose weight and it's the one I've gone back to time and time again. As long as you're getting exercise in consistently, it's not a bad thing at all :).

I could probably go longer, but my butt gets too darn numb!

I'm with ya... so much conflicting information on the internet. But at the end of the day, what makes the most sense is: Exercise of any length, in any increments, will help you make progress.
