As someone who loves a good cup of coffee and who has done a fair bit of traveling, I know that there are often regional and national specialties when it comes to coffee. I'd love it if people would share some of their favorites and give the rest of us some ideas for new things to try.

Three of my personal favorites:

Café con Leche: Being raised in Miami, I was steeped in Cuban culture growing up. I learned to love this stuff! Brew up a STRONG shot of café Cubano in an espresso maker, pour it into a large mug and then top it off with hot 2% milk. While this is pretty much a latté, something about Cuban coffee really makes it memorable and delicious.

Café Du Monde: This coffee shop on Ducatur Street in New Orleans' French Quarter makes some of the most delicious chicory coffee. Café au lait and beignets? So delicious. Can't make it down to New Orleans? No worries, they sell their amazing coffee and chicory grounds which you might be able to find in a local store depending on where you live. (Or on Amazon)

In Israel, they serve a really popular coffee with cardamom that is absolutely fantastic. It's pretty popular across the Mediterranean and you can find recipes for this as "Turkish Coffee" (example: http://mideastfood.about.com/od/drinkscoffeetea/r/Turkishcoffee.htm)

So, any favorite types of coffee or coffee drinks?

My most memorable coffe was in Ireland. Super strong coffee with clotted cream and raw sugar. I still think about it years later.

We get ours from a local place in town that has been roasting their own beans since 1951, for a long time it wasn't available to anyone but fancy eateries but now they have a store. They're also 1 of 2 stores in PA authorized to sell a Pittsburgh blend. I know this probably doesn't count but i'm a fan of ice coffee so we get Green Mountain (i think that's it) at the grocery store or i use an instant cappuccino as a whole pot may not get drunk. I miss buying those starbucks ice coffee things in the coolers at the checkouts.

I'm in Japan and there is a little coffee shop I like to go to sometimes called the Juicy Monkey (haha) and they have this ChocoMilano Latte that is simply to die for. It's so decadent. It is definitely not healthy, so I make it a treat, but mmmmm its so good. The Japanese are best at lattes.

In Madison WI on State st. either Espresso Royale or Michelangelo's are the best. Fair Trade, Organic and usually single source. They also have local nummy treats and some GF treats too! I really miss the cinnamon rolls. (they had to have been like 1500 cal each)
