beta blockers killed motivation

hi everyone, i've recently been started on beta blockers for tension and migraine headaches and they seem to have killed my "oomph!" right off. i have no motivation to do my running at all. i'm on anti convulsants (30years so not new meds) as well which have always made me feel a bit zoned out but the bet blockers just make me feel :indifferent: "meh"

has any one else encountered this and how did you get over it, help please!

cheers julie

Just a suggestion, but maybe you need to try a new Beta blocker.

My husband was recently prescribed a certain type that made him want to just crawl away and be alone... no energy... depressed.... it was terrible! We spoke with his Doc and he prescribed another and this one has ZERo effects!! It's so fantastic!

Might be something to discuss with your doctor.

    Good Luck!! :flowerforyou:

Tell your doctor!!! There are other options besides beta blockers for migraines.

I'm on propranolol for migraines and its the worst for my energy. They give it to snipers to quell any jitters, so imagine what is doing to us! But I couldn't live having migraines every two weeks, either. Gabapentin made me suicidal, so I guess amitriptyline is my next option. Sometimes it's more than mind over matter. I hope you find something that works for you.

I'm propranolol for migraines also & have never noticed a drop in energy. I'm restarting it after being off of it for a couple months due to a doctor switch and lag in getting the prescription refilled though, so we'll see this time around. I'm pretty terrible at noticing symptoms when I have them, so I may just be clueless.

I'm on propranolol ER for migraines (and gabapentin for a nerve disease), and the propranolol takes several days to get used to. It takes several weeks to really help migraines (for me, anyway) and by then I couldn't tell I was taking it otherwise.

I'm actually on it for heart palpitations and a high pulse rate, too, but that is just a raised dosage and the 'ER' form of what I was on for years already for migraines. It's a good drug, imho. For me, anyway :) Good luck!

I too am struggling on propranolol for migraines. I tried a very low does but it let too much pain back in so my doc raised it again. At this point I've gained almost 15 lbs since starting on the meds in Nov. I've come.to the realization that I'd rather be tired and gain weight than have pain every day. It takes a lot more effort to work out and not just sleep all day but I think it has improved already. Good luck finding your balance
