Don't know what to do....

I've been feeling really discouraged lately because I'm not losing, and I don't know what to do. Weight loss is a lot harder for me in the winter because I'm not part of a gym, so I can't work out whenever I want like in the summer. I also just suffered a neck injury a few days after buying a new jump rope that I not cannot use. Help?

What are your stats and calorie/weight loss goals? I see your diary is open, which is a good step. While exercise helps and is great for fitness, it's not necessary to lose weight. Weight loss is primarily about your diet. Keep in mind that when I say that, I mean being at a deficit. Don't rely on exercise to get you at a deficit, because (sadly) it doesn't burn as much as we'd like to think, and even MFP can grossly overestimate your burn. The only thing I've found it to be mostly accurate for is walking/running.

I think another part of it is being friends with so many people who have lost 20+ pounds already. I started at 250 lbs, and am 240 at the moment. I hope to get down to at least 170, as I'm 6'0". MFP has my calorie goal at 1770, which is not bad. I try to stay under that even before exercise, but a lot of the time it doesn't work out like that.

As for the food, I'm still in school and live with my mom, and not only is healthy food expensive and hard to find in my area, it's embarrassing to ask my mom for as she doesn't believe I can do this.

Are you weighing and measuring all your foods, to ensure accuracy When logging?

Results are 80% diet and 20% fitness. Exercise is needed in order to tone your body. (This in response to a post on this feed).

Using a heart rate monitor during exercise will give you an accurate calorie burn number. MFP is usually too high on calories burnt.

Most of the time, I estimate. What do you recommend?

When I exercise during the summer I wear a heart rate monitor, but during the winter, I can't. The only time I get to exercise during the winter is in my PE program, where we are required to wear a heart rate monitor that only records our minutes in a target heart rate zone. On top of this, I have a heart problem, and so my limits are set lower. The program is after school, and I am always worn out by that time, so I usually only work out enough to get my minutes. Beyond this, my upper limit is 150 because of my condition, so if I go above that, I don't get my minutes in.

Not all healthy food is expensive. Most legumes, for instance, can be bought dry, soaked, cooked, and are delicious and filling. There are alot of other foods that are possible--do a little research. Your mom doesn't have to be involved--try to do some shopping yourself and cooking. Tell her you're interested in cooking now. Exercise is just movement--you have to figure this out yourself. Alot of people have difficult lives and that means getting creative and solving your problems. It's part of being successful in life. Just never give up and you'll be OK.

Legumes are beans, right? I'm not sure if I would like them. I'm really picky, which is awful, and I also have life-threatening food allergies to dairy and eggs. I don't have a car or a job because of school and physical problems. And I like to cook, but I never know how to cook what or I can't find recipes.

If you're not losing, then you're not eating at a deficit. You've already said you estimate your food. You're underestimating. Weigh your food.

I used legumes as an example--there are lots of healthy foods. You're alot younger than I am, and i presume know how to use internet better than me ( I struggle with it). Soooooooooooooooo get on internet and research recipes. When your mom goes grocery shopping ask to go along and help---yes, carry those groceries, it's sort of like lifting weights. Your mom might just be shocked and pleasantly surprised at the offer of help. ANY movement is better than none. Get creative, you've got you're whole life ahead of you. What kind of person do you want to be? It's a good time to decide.
