Binged this morning (1500 calorie breakfast). Help?

I'm currently in maintenance, but ate 1500 calories and it's not even noon yet. I was super strict about my diet these past 3 days, but completely messed up today. Should I exercise for the rest of the day or not eat anything except for a small 150 calorie salad for dinner? I feel super guilty. This probably happens once a week. Help?

I would just call it a cheat meal and eat better the remainder of the day. DO NOT starve yourself the rest of the day.

I'm sure the people who follow this post would say the same.

Also, if you KNOW this happens once a week, then you should probably start figuring out your binge triggers.

If you are doing this once a week, are you sure you're eating enough during the week?

If you find yourself frequently binging, you need to find the cause and fix that.

Do NOT starve yourself or try to make up for it. One day off won't kill you, just get on track with the rest of the day and work on trying to figure out why you keep doing this.

For me, it was something as simple as needing to up my calories a little. For some, it's emotional. Everyone has a different reason. Try to find yours.

More of the same^^. Own it. Log it. Move on. Not much else you can do other than remind yourself that you don't want to go back to where you were. Find the motivation you need to get into maintenance mode not yoyo mode.

I just went on a full weekend binge.

Pretty much had burgers and beers for dinner Fri, Sat and Sun nights, plus big, fatty breakfast on Sunday morning.

Guess what? The scale didn't move, my pants still fit the same, and I didn't explode.

I just start again with my healthy eating/exercise regimen today.

I subscribe to the 80/20 rule. If I'm eating well 80% of the time, I can let loose for 20% guilt free.

Feeling guilty or down about a single binge, or even a once/week binge is only going to sabotage your successes. Focus on what you can do today, and forget about what you did yesterday.
  • Thank you so much! I started writing a long reply about how your post helped me, but it turned into its own post. I posted it as a blog entry (my first), which you can find here:
