I live in a SUPER small town there are no big fancy gyms close by to work out in so your pretty much left to your own devices. I just started on my weight los journey after much yo-yo and crash dieting. I am currently doing "The Biggest Loser" Cardio Max DVD right now and loving the motivation of the guides and how the moves can be altered to beginners or those who are not as physically able to do them. I just have a set of hand weights for now...
Looking for some new workouts I can do at home that will be effective!??

I use Fitness Blender videos via YouTube. They are awesome.0

Pilates. Planks. Burpees. Look on YouTube, you can find tons of workouts using just your own body for resistance.0

My OnDemand channel on cable has a "fitness and sports" section FILLED with all different kinds of exercise routines for beginner, intermediate, and advanced. If you have OnDemand, I would definitely recommend checking it out!0

Im using Fitnessblender too. You can find them on Youtube or search for their website. There are so many calories and it's such a big variety. From Pilates to HIIT to 5-minute long workouts and some to burn 1000 calories. I love them because you can do something different every day and still have fun (and i hate sports.. ^^)0

collagevideo.com is a great resource for looking up DVD info
http://www.collagevideo.com/
You get a list of equipment required, impact level, fitness level, choreography level....and a video clip. The video clip will let you know if there are any modifiers.
I like Kelly Coffey Meyer DVDs ....she has a series 30 Minutes to fitness....the DVDs generally have 2 -30 minute workouts & lots of premixes to keep it fresh. I like this one: http://www.collagevideo.com/workout-video/kelly-coffeys-30-min-to-fitness-start-here-6097

Yep! I use OnDemand videos for my kickboxing, target areas, and yoga workouts. YouTube has a lot of videos as well, like Level 1 of the 30 Day Shred.0 -
Fitness Blender!! Love them. I also made my own weights. I use old laundry detergent bottles as kettlebells.0

currently working my way through Jillian Michael's ripped in 30. I'm using 10lbers for the first two circuits and 5lbers for the last. I tried out pop pilates for a week but couldn't get into it.0

it depends on your budget of course, but walmart is your friend in this case.....I have Brazil Butt Lift....all that is needed is a set of 5lb ankle weights and 5lb dumbbells....I also have p90x which I bought on a buy and sell website...if you have one in your area, check it out to see if anyone is selling anything like that....I also have Chalean Extreme....I bought that one and BBL from the beachbody website....a larger investment for sure, but cheaper in the long run than an ongoing gym membership which I can't afford right now....I love all three of these programs and I also bought a Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30 for about $10 at walmart....I'm going to get her abs one too.....as well as things that other posters are suggesting, you might want to take a look at these....they have worked for me.....I did make a major investment in a set of Bowflex Select Tech dumbells so I can dial up and down and only need one set of weights....I live in a small apartment so I don't have room for lots of equipment......best of luck with your journey....:)0

If you have an iphone or ipad, get the Hot5 app. I love it. It's tons of 5 minute workouts to target whatever area you want. Plus it syncs with MFP so cals burned are calculated. Can't beat that! Oh, and it's FREE!0

Look for beginner Workout of the Day (WOD) plans online. They are almost entirely bodyweight, and will kick your bootay.0

30 Day Shred.0

Insanity or P90x-x30

I've been using virtuagym as it has a website and app so I can run a workout program whenever, wherever. The audio "encouragements" are a little goofy since it's run by a german company, but the workouts are straight forward and they have a good selection for no and minimal equipment.0

Fitnessblender.com. Seriuosly awesome.0

Should be able to find a good assortment of video's giving you a good workout with those hand weights. Also Insanity is great along with all the other beachbody video's.

for cardio, I also use Fitnessblender and just started using videos from XHIT and Popsugar Fitness. For weight training, I am doing body weight exercises from the book "Body by You" by Mark Lauren.0

Blogilates (www.blogilates.com) is a great, structured way to work out at home--all you need is an internet connection and a floor, and the trainer makes calendars for you to follow each month, as well as one for beginners to follow. A 6-8 inch aerobics step is also pretty great for cardio workouts like step aerobics and jump training, and you should be able to get one online or at a big box store like Costco or Walmart.0

I have the Sworkit app which is great for quick cardio and they hit some basic strength type stuff in there too. I also got the app "you are your own gym" which is all body weight plus household stuff like chair/table etc. I don't really love the way it's laid out and you can't customize in all the ways i'd like but it's a decent app for the $1.99, good place to start or for a quick workout when you need someone to just tell you what to do to mix it up though.
I'm currently doing my own tweaked variation of this guys program- http://www.startbodyweight.com/ He has a nifty little info graphic you can print out that shows you every variation of the exercises.0 -
I have a ton of home equipment that I purchased throughout the years. My favorite is my elliptical I got on craigslist for 80.00. Use it like crazy doing HIIT training or ladders (look it up best cardio to do). Then I have a ton of hand weights that you can purchase at Walmart for cheap. That paired with an exercise ball can give you just about everything you need to workout on. There are 100’s of things you can do on an exercise ball with weights! To mix things up I do workout video's but only when bored. 3 days cardio, 3 weights, at about 20-30 min apiece is all you need.0

I have a HIIT app on my phone. The one I have is from UOVO and it's a 7 minute workout.
I also have a FitBit which is the best fitness investment I've ever made.0 -
Many legit gals here swear by Fitness blender, also check out http://www.zuzkalight.com/ and http://www.bodyrock.tv/
Zuzanna at zuzkalight.com used to do body rock and a lot of those videos are on youtube as well.
You can totally whip yourself at home, Jump rope, push ups, planks, burpees etc. I do many workouts at home with kettlebells and a pull up bar
No worries about gym distances, I am not sure if I will ever go again0 -
I recommend Jillian Micheals workouts because she has a really nice big selection and can make your own schedule or just follow what she has going on. 30 Day Shred and Ripped in 30 are her most popular and are great for following back-to-back. Less than $8 each on Amazon, available digitally and in DVD, and I think has alot of bang for the buck since her workouts average for 30 days per program at least. She also has a Body Revolution program that is a little pricier, but goes for 12 weeks so is worth it. Also great to start with something and stick with it beginning to end and she really progresses nicely in this one.
Personally I also like Focus T25 from Beachbody. I think this is more ideal for losing a good amount of weight quickly (but sustainably) because the calorie burn is very high for most of the workouts.0 -
My Default: MY TWO FEET.
I can walk as fast as I can and/or jog up and down my steps as much as I'd like and I put on the tunes and DANCE for a solid 40 some minutes.
All the other stuff is BONUS.
I knew when I started this journey many years ago, that IF i had to depend on being at a gym to maintain my weight once I hit my goal, I'd be screwed.
SO I never built it into my MUST DO routine.
All I did was walk.
And park further away in the parking lot.
And push carts back into the stores, not leave them in the parking lot corrals.
And take steps- jog up them if I could.
Later, I added weights- hand/ankle to increase the toning and burn0
