Trying so hard... for once

A little background - I've had an ED for many, many years. I had a baby about 7 months ago and didn't try to lose weight because I didn't want to affect nursing. So now that we are pretty much done nursing I joined MFP in hopes that I could lose the weight in a healthy way this time (namely by actually eating). So I've read things on these boards, plugged my info into IIFYM and sadly my BMR is 1149, my TDEE is 1580. From what I've read most people do 20% of TDEE which puts me at 1264. I keep reading about the dreaded 1200/day and am wondering - am I doing the right thing? I've got about 18 pounds to lose but really care more about looking toned and fit. So is 1264 enough? when I keep reading about people saying 1200 isn't. I just really want to do this right. I work out 3-4 times a week. Thanks for any advice or anything.

It really depends on your height and weight! If you are 160+ pounds, 1200 is out of the question and you need to eat some more. But if your tiny, it might be different0

What are your stats? Ht, wt, activity level?
1580 is pretty low for TDEE, I am assuming you are petite and you aren't active?0 -
im 5' 1'' 118 lbs.......im a stay at home mom ( so kinda sedentary kinda not) and i do kickboxing/boxing 3-4 times per week.0

Your numbers are right. I'm an inch taller than you and about the same weight. Have you considered focusing more on body recomposition instead of weight loss?0

yes i have. i really don't want to be obsessed with numbers on the scale. I would much rather be lean and muscular. I started reading threads about stronglifts. I know that lifting (correctly) could probably change how i look. Ive never actually done a real lifting program - just kind of the lets do some sets of biceps, triceps, squats and such. What do you do? Can you recommend anything? Are you at about the same calories as I am? Sorry for all the questions - i just really want to do this in the most healthy way possible and any kind of support would be so great.0

For someone who had a baby 7 months ago, 118 lbs. is a good weight. Congratulations -- most women carry 20 lbs. of "baby weight" for the rest of their lives.. You might find a little more comes off if your baby is weaned because the milk and extra body fat you had to maintain the milk supply will eventually drop off. I agree with the other posters -- focus on toning rather than weight loss. You might also enter that you are lightly active rather than sedentary. Child care is light physical labor, especially as the baby gets heavier and becomes mobile. When I had young children, I was always on the go, and thinner than I am now.0

I put sedentary because I didn't want to overestimate any calorie burn. I certainly don't sit around all day but I didn't want MFP to put me at something too high calorie wise if I wasn't actually burning that.0
