A trace amount that your body won't even notice, yes.

What's your method of quitting? Cessation, Cold Turkey, etc?

I quit with the help of Wellbutrin and the desire to not waste my time anymore. Honestly that was my biggest motivator. I just got tired of giving my time to something that was so destructive to me. It was stupid and I'm not a stupid person...a little dense at times but not stupid.

If you want to quit, and desire to quit, it can be done. I don't even crave them anymore. Being around smokers doesn't bother me. I'm lucky that way, most people who quit crave cigarettes for years and years after they quit.

I love broccoli, maybe that's why. I never knew this. I smoked for 12 years since I was 12. I quit once for 9 months when I was 15 and again for 9 months when I was 19. You can probably tell why just by the lengths of time. Each time I went back to it because the people I was around smoked and I had no self control. Then, finally, I quit again 2 years ago for the same reason as before and stayed quit. All times I quit cold turkey because I had someone/thing more important than myself to think about. My husband also quit smoking but took on chewing. He traded one bad habit for another, however, he did quit chewing 6 months ago so he is off the tobacco completely. It is possible to quit cold turkey, you just have to have the will power and a bigger motivation for it to stick.

I used a program called "End the Habit" but unfortunately it is no longer available since the Canadian government stopped allowing it's citizens to buy lobelia (which was a key component to the program). The program consisted of using lobelia for two weeks while smoking and then you continue to use it after your quit date. There were affirmations to read every time you smoked for those first two weeks and then others to read after your quit date. Basically, it worked by getting your mind right with the affirmations and curbing the cravings a bit with the lobelia. It really worked well for me and for the first time in my life I don't crave it at all and it has been two years (I had quit before cold turky once and with Chantix another time). With those other two methods, it was always something I had to fight. Not this time. It is too bad the Canadian government killed that guys business because it was really good. I hope you guys find something that works for you!

I smoked for 40 years (from 13) and the only thing that worked for me was Cold Turkey. Reality is after 3 days the Nicotine and other addictions are cleared and the only thing left is psychological. I found dragging out the addiction made me more likely to start (I used the patch a couple of times and gum etc)
Drink lots of water (you're doing that anyway if you are here - drink more lol) I drank water every time i had a craving it helped a lot. I tried E cigs no nicotine - bought 1 used it a bit tossed it after 5 days seemed pointless
chew gum, snack on carrots and celery. You can do it if I can (I am now 7 months and a week)
You'll save a ton of money just think of that when you are tempted. Right now in toronto a cheap pack of 20 cigarettes is now $9 if you smoke a pack a day like I did that amounts to $3285 a year . that's a lot of dosh on the anniversary treat yourself to a big purchase of whatever turns your crank (for me this July it will be a bespoke suit (or 2) and some shirts )
  • I smoked for 28 years- almost three packs a day at the end. Quit in 2001 and have never touched them again. It's a b*tch, but you CAN do it!! I brushed my teeth a lot- that lousey taste you get in your mouth when you try to quit sucks. Brushing, mints, and mint or cinnamon gum. I also got my teeth cleaned at the dentist about a week after I quit- and that helped as well.

I used the Nicorette gum at first, then the lozenges for a while, then the patches at the end. Other people I know have had success with Chantix.

    Good luck to you!!

You can grow Lobelia in Canada, I have it in my garden most years and seeds are easy to get. never though to use it when i quit - Cold Turkey was tough - I did it at the same time as a friend who also smoked for decades - we're both still off because we challenged each other and both are stubborn enough that we don't want the other guy to best us

The time thing did it for me - always looking for a spot to grab a smoke. And the looks from the non-smokers. I used the gum, changed up my diet and started a physco cardio program to flush the crap. That journey started in 1/1/2003. You are lucky about being around smokers. Put me in a bar with beer and other smokers and I will fall off the wagon. But the next day, I am on again. I will probably never not want a good smoke with my beer.

and it was worth every minute. OP is a pretty young guy so he may not feel the difference as dramatically as I have because it takes years of abuse for it to really impact, the rate of repair is dramatic by comparison
the first 2 weeks are really the toughest and every day it gets easier

I would bet a lot of Monsanto GMO crops do because they engineer in Nicitinoids as a pest control, sadly it is one of the reasons for the Bee die off we have been experiencing

I'll be 54 in july so yep 32 looks young to me  I first tried to quit around your age hopefully you have more success than i did - a lot of my life has been spent around the music business and in bars and when i was 32 you could smoke in bars still
And Corn is the worse avoids it at all costs  (It's actually the Monsanto product linked to the bee die off in North America - Bees dying off scares the hell out of me Like being able to eat and pollenators are a pretty core ingredient in food production of any sort)

Well good for you! I have failed three times so far.

I failed at least 6 times that i remember shortest was probably a week longest was 6 months
Cold turkey worked for a couple of reasons YMMV
1 - I had hit a point where i just had it and did not want to spend the money (It's expensive in Canada)
2 - I did it in conjunction with a good friend and we challenged on another. Another Friend was sure we would both fail (we both did several times in the past so she had good reason to believe that) We just fed on one another and reached out when we needed the support (sort of like NA or AA without all the claptrap)
3 - I had support at home - though I didn't even mention it at first - My wife noticed after a couple of days when i was getting really cranky)

I hope you manage at some point , I don't begrudge people smoking (it would be pretty hypocritical after smoking for 40 years - but I will cheer on anyone who wants to quit because I've seen how that helped me)
it's a bugger to quit (And I've quit a couple of nasty habits like Coke and Speed in my youth - this was far harder- harder than Heroin according to Friends who've quit that - and that is ugly having helped a couple of friends through it) - So keep trying one time it will take
the will power to lose weight is similar I find
