Questions about exercise

I just had a couple of questions I was hoping someone might be able to answer or give advice on. I'm not going to be able to run today because of the weather. I'll probably do something else inside. I was just wondering if you miss a day can you make up for it the next day by going for a longer time and or distance? Does exercising work that way?

I was also wondering how much exercise is enough exercise? And I guess the flipside to that is how much is too much? I just started exercising last week. Jogged for 5 days and took 2 days off. But I'd like to add a little more like some P90 or something like that. I'm just concerned that that might be overdoing it and I'd be setting myself up for failure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Your body will tell you if you are doing too much so listen to it. Ive always gone with the rule never work out the same muscle group for more than 2 days in a row. The muscles need time to repair and recoup to get stronger. As for how much is enough or how much is too much that differs for everybody. It all depends on your fitness level among other things. I am currently doing Focus T25 and I walk on the treadmill 45-60 minutes a day at around 3.5mph. If I miss a T25 workout for some reason I do double up the next day to make it up but I dont apply that same logic to the treadmill. Just pick up where you left off and keep going. If you cant keep up with the exercise without feeling weak or completely exhausted you are probably pushing too hard. If you feel light headed at all you may be pushing too hard. Listen to your body, make sure to drink plenty of water and you should be ok

I wouldn't worry about making up for the missed day, especially not when all of this is so new to you. Just consider this a rest day and get back out there tomorrow.

As for how much exercise is enough or too much, there's no good general answer because everyone is different. But take it slow. Add small increments to what you're doing. If you start P90 next week, back off on the running to just 2 or 3 days. Get a feel for what your body can handle at this point and ease into the increases.

Thank you both for the advice. It was too cold to do anything outside today so I just did something inside. I'll take your advice and take it slow. I don't want to do too much too soon and end up burning out. That has been my problem in the past. So I'll just keep on keeping on.

There are days I play competitive volleyball pretty much non stop for 3 hours (or more) and some days I do cardio and lift. However I do take at least 1 rest day a week. As someone else mentioned listen to your body and I would say it's ok to do more.
