seriously feeling the cold!!!

Not sure if this is the right place for this, and not really expecting any answers, but just fed up. Since losing 70lbs I seriously feel the cold, I'm learning to live with it although its not great. I have started swimming lessons in prep for a sprint triathlon - I am safe in water but not good swimmer. First couple were okay, felt cold but ok as long as moving, and took plenty of layers for afterwards. This week I went to gym first - HIIT class, then 5km bike, I went really cold and shaky, I took some time out, plenty of water and a banana, felt better. Went straight to swimming, started shivering as soon as I got undressed, ok as long as moving had to get out pool early as so cold and shivering uncontrollably, end up being treated for hyperthermia symptoms. Took daughter to toddler swim class today, not quite so bad but again shivering uncontrollably by end, could hardly get us dressed. Ended up sitting in café with 4 layer and coat and coffee - 15 mins on still cold but felt safe to leave.

Opening your food diary may help to answer - my first thought is that you're either not moving enough or you're not getting enough calories/nutrients.
I get feeling cold after a big weight loss. The winter of 2010-2011 was a bit rough for me. However, I've discovered that if I eat a good balance including plenty of protein and fat, and workout consistently, I don't tend to feel the cold as much.
Could be something medical as well - thyroid imbalance, low blood iron, etc Might be worth a trip to the doc if it doesn't get better.0 -
I agree with MinnieInMaine. I've lost almost 70 pounds by eating approximately 1500 calories per day, and this winter I've been feeling the cold more than ever in my life (although not nearly to the extent you have). I don't think my hands have been warm since October. I've never had this problem before, in fact my wife has joked for years that the only reason she married me is because of how warm my hands are in the winter (at least I think she's kidding). I've been attributing my cold extremities to the amount of calories I've been eating. Once I hit my goal weight and can increase my caloric intake up to 1800-2200 calories, I'm hoping next winter to be feeling a bit more myself. If your reacting this severely, you might want to add a few hundred calories back to your diet, or cut back on the exercise. How many calories are you consuming a day? Have you estimated how many you are burning when you exercise?0

Thanks guys. I haven't logged recently but will try it for a few days and open my diary up. I think my calories are generally ok as I have happily maintained for over a year. I don't fully eat exercise calories back but I don't consciously avoid it. I do still struggle with the balance of extra fuel for exercise, and the right stuff. I generally only burn about 400-500 cals in a workout so its not major, although I did work out it was over 800 in total on tues, and I really hadn't eaten much during the day.
Cold weather has returned today so I will be bundled up like a Michellin Man when I go on school run!0 -
Okay swim today. Made sure I had some lunch and a decent snack before, and kept hydrated. Went to gym, but not such a long session. At the start the session supervisor (who wasn't there last week) had a bit of discussion with the people who treated me last week, and I thought at first he was going to say I couldn't stay, but it was ok they just kept a close eye on me.0

I feel cold all the time too but I lost my cushion...guess its the trade off.0

I was feeling cold today I think it can be weightloss also its just March and mentally we are all ready for some warm weather and tired of it being cold out so now it feels even colder. I had goosebumps today while sitting under an electric blanket for crying out loud!0

I always feel the cold even hn i was fat.
A) its worse when you are in deficit, maybe try maintenance over winter?
increasing your iron lets you build up an inulating layer.
C) protein helps to warm me up as im digesting it ( thermogynic effect?)
D) carbs can help to warm me up.
E) hot beverage eg tea, coffee, soup,
F) wetsuit, u may feel silly but ho cares? Or maybe one of those swim uits things the thletes wear.0
