Just a few questions

Hi

Started a while ago but never really kept to it, but now I am committed. Bit of background, kind of want to loose weight and tone up...not looking my best and tbh never have really. I had just a few questions about it before I start

1. Should I weigh myself everyday and put it into fitness pal or do it weekly
2. What is the best motivation for getting me to the gym/the fastest way to loose weight

Many Thanks

It's best to weigh yourself weekly. And if you don't go to the gym now in your life, you will never reach your goal. Life goes by quick so it's best to use any oppertunity you have, because it could slip away at anytime.

You can weight yourself everyday if you want. I did that for 3 months just to see how much it fluctuated each day. But don't get discouraged. You can and will put on water weight each day but it's just water and not fat (assuming you stay with your caloric deficit.) One morning I was up 3.6 lbs and 20 hours later I weighed myself again and that 3.6 was gone. I like watching videos of other people working out to get me motivated.

The best motivation I have for getting to the gym is working out with a friend. We keep each other going. When she's not available, I find that if I go first thing in the morning, right after bus stop drop off, I'm more likely to get the work out done.

I weigh everyday but only log if I lose weight once a week. If no lose, no logging. I fluctuate like crazy and found that I gain weight the day after working out, so do not let that discourage you. The tape measure is probably a better way to go once you start working out, not the scale.

For me, the easiest way to stay motivated is to workout with a buddy. I'm the competitive type and I won't allow myself to fall behind. Another thing that helps me out is reminding myself of my goal. Why did I start working out and what do I want to accomplish. And for those days that I feel like skipping the gym cause I'm just not feeling it, I think to myself, "What would I be doing instead of the hour gym session?" and "Is it worth missing for this?" Also, it helps to take progression pictures for those times you think you're just not going anywhere. You look back at where you started and it reminds you how far you've come and what you don't want to go back to. And if you want a little extra drive, keep a calendar with all the workouts written out for the month(s) and cross off only the days you completed the workouts. If you're skipping days, you'll see the blank spaces start piling up. Good luck and hope this helps.

Edit: The fastest way to lose weight is not always the healthiest. Don't look for shortcuts. Just put in the time into fitness and keep eating healthy. The weight WILL go.

I weigh myself daily but do not let it influence my habits for the day. There are too many factors that can cause a daily weigh in to not show progress. Those same factors can also influence a weekly weigh in. For example, when you have a strenuous workout you create micro tears in your tissue that fluid rushes in to fill. Your diet may also fluctuate wildly in sodium content too. Both of these can temporarily influence your weight.

When i want to weigh in I plan for it by having 2 rest days where I don't workout, watch my calories/sodium, and then weigh in when before breakfast. i feel this gives me a better picture of where I actually am. Ladies may need to plan their weigh ins so not to coincide with any monthly visitations.

There are no shortcuts. I tend to do better by replacing some carbs with protein but that's the only thing I might suggest. Shoot for 2 lbs a week at max, understand that building muscle mass can help burn fat, celebrate your successes and don't let setbacks hold you down. You are you own best motivator. You need to do this for yourself first and foremost. If you have kids or a loved one then post a pic of them on your mirror or above you scale.

I know my profile shows I'm a noob here but this is my second time around and all stuff I learned before. Hope this helps.
