Are you looking for foods that are low in carbs? Or meals? My diary is open if you want to take a look. I eat keto-style, which is low carb and high fat.0

Input for what purpose??? there is a thread going now titled "a calorie is not a calorie is not a calorie" that starts with some science papers and then goes from there that debates the carb issue vs the calorie issue. might be worth a look...
for me, i cut carbs when i go from cutting to lean phase of my diet. in lean phase my macros for carbs are lower than protein and fat macros. but that is by design as i am trying to burn last bits of fat to expose more muscle definition. the food you list are all good, just gotta pay attention to the carb content, again depending on what you are trying to achieve. good luck...0 -
Well to me, eating oats wouldn't be low carb.
Or are you talking eating only complex carbs? No added sugars?
To me, do what you want. Eat what you want whether thats low carb, vegan, low calorie, raw....etc. You have to find what works for you but at the end of the day whatever method you use it's about the calorie deficit. I eat low carb since that's the best for me to stick to. But to me low carb is low carb/high fat/moderate protein, no matter what source it's coming from whether it's a Snickers bar or whether it's organic, steel cut, fair trade oats.0 -
Nonsense. All it does is depletes you from stored glycogen and water so you look smaller and weight less but it's an illusion, it won't burn more fat than a normal calorie deficit would. Only reason it might work is to keep you more full cos you ate more protein so you might not overeat or eat less. But that's all. Also, high protein and high fat is not healthy, if you get majority of fat from animal products. Too much saturated fat is not good for you in long term. It would be way healthier to ate carbs. If course unless you don't care about health or get all the fat from good fat sources like oils, nuts, avocados, etc in which case go and do it for as long as you wish. But I would not recommend to do high animal fat diet especially for long periods of time. Not to mention that if you would cut out all carbs your energy levels would drop hugely, most likely, some people might get past that but it's small minority, and stay like that from a week up to a few months until your body adapts. After which time some people get even more energy than they would on carbs but adaption period is a *****.0

I'm sorry. I have people telling me this is UNHEALTHY!!0

You definitely do not have to eat bread, sugar, pasta, rice and potatoes to be healthy.0 -
I'm just looking to be healthy and smaller yes!! I weigh 240 pounds. I figure I need to cut sugar and processed foods. Breads and pastas make me feel bloated and S's lugging.
you a good lookin 240!
why do you want to cut carbs?
i've done atkins and just about any other diet that is losely connected to actual science.
People see that your body 'switches' to burning fat as a primary energy source (this is true, and not surprising considering how much fat and how little carbs you are eating).
However, people make the assumption that this will somehow burn your body fat faster.
It will not, you will only burn body fat at the rate that you create an energy (i.e. Calorie) defecit, same as any other diet.
In my opinion, there is no reason to watch you intake of an macro (other then protein to make sure your getting enough). Just make sure you are at or under your calorie goal.
This is strictly for wieight lose. there can be legitimate health reasons to cut carbs. But you only should be altering your diet in that respect if instructed to do so by an M.D.0 -
I am honestly confused by the concept of "low carb" -- How much is low carb???
I am gluten free due to food allergies so a side-effect for me is a lower carb diet (unless I choose to fill it with sugary things and gluten-free breads, cookies and crackers). A typical day for me is less than 200g of carbs. I think my diet is pretty healthy. I get my carbs from veggies, seeds/nuts, legumes, and fruit...and the occaisonal Starbucks latte. Low carb can be healthy if you work hard to ensure a balanced diet rich with vitamins and minerals. Avoiding bread and pasta is not really a bad thing- it depends on what you replace it with...0 -

Actually low carb is not unhealthy. I've been doing it since July. Down 30 lbs and I feel better than I did when I was eating high carb and low fat. If you're interested in giving keto, or high fat/low carb a try, here's a link that can help you get started.

That's pretty much what it is, only you eat high fat, rather than high protein. Fat is the fuel source your body goes to when it doesn't have the carbs.0 -
I feel better without the sugar, breads and pastas. If I'm craving it I will have it.
if you honestly feel better i guess thats one thing.
in my experince, avoiding things you crave only makes you crave them more.
consider this, traditional 'dieting' consists of two parts : 1)eating less, 2)avoiding certain foods.
All that is really necessairy to lose wieght is # 1.
so if you only do one of the two, you've honestly made the whole undertaking 50% easier... thats my story anyways0 -
I truly feel better. I would never go without something I crave. It's a disaster if I do. Sometimes I worry when I eat healthy I don't eat enough bc it's more filling.0
-
how many carbs can you consume in a day for it to be a low carb diet. i am thinking about going low carb too.0

Most say 50. I just feel better without the processed stuff bread, pasta and sugars. If im craving it I will have it.0

It really depends on where your body is comfortable. I keep my carbs under 30. Some days even under 20. I was also losing when my carbs were under 50. I would say play around with your numbers and see where you feel most comfortable. But also remember to up your fat intake to make up for lack of carbs.0 -
Personally, I do well on 50-90 grams of carbs each day. I can stick with under 30 grams for a long time if I want to, but I've found I can consistently lose weight if I keep grams of carbs below 90 each day. That allows me to eat lots of veggies and the occasional small sweet.0

This is true. What works for one person for satiety and health doesn't mean it works for the next person.
I actually feel my best energy, sleep and over all well being when I eat 10 or less carbs per day. Which means having a vegetables with my supper - but breakfast and lunch are all fat and protein.
I do enjoy eating vegetables and fruits, so I have learned my body to where I know what I can eat and how much.
One thing is for certain.............protein is held constant and the fluctuations come between the fat and carbs. AFter you have lost the bulk of your weight, you want to slowly re-introduce carbs and lessen the fat intake a bit so that everything evens out.0 -
Im not eating a high fat diet. Not good for the kidneys. Gonna.do what I can continue to do. I have had a lot of junk.the last 2 days. Bad week to.try to get rid of carbs!0
-
Do you log what you eat every day and notice how many calories you consume on a weave daily? IMO this is a good start.0

You can't really low carb without going either high fat or high protein...0 -
OP - if you want to lose weight then do the following..
create a 500 calorie per day deficit, or just set MFP to one pound per week loss…
work out/move more ..whether this is walking, jogging, strength training…at some point I would recommend heavy liftting with compound movements - starting strength and new rules of lifting for woman are good resources…
get a food scale and weigh/measure/log everything...
follow the 80/20 rule = 80% healthy, 20% whatever you want - cookies, cake, ice cream, pizza…Remember there are no "bad' foods, just food that your body uses for energy…
Eat what you want, stay in a deficit, move more these are the keys to long term success...0 -
what ndj said. The best advice given thus far. look at doood's pic and that is enough to let you know that he knows what time it is.0

I eat low carb (sub 30g) I eat 65-70%fat 10%carbs and the rest protein. I went through renal failure (they couldn't figure out what caused it) a few years back and now they watch my kidney function pretty closely. I've had no issues in 3 years of low carb. I've lost over 40lbs since I started low carb and I have TONS more energy. Also, my cholesterol has improved significantly. My results are VERY common for someone who was already obese when I started low carb. I'm never looking back!0

Unless you have kidney problems, a high fat diet shouldn't be a concern of yours.
Yes, exposure to a high-fat diet decreases levels of the cellular energy sensor AMPK (adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinasein) many organs, including the kidneys, but whether AMPK contributes to the pathophysiology of kidney disease induced by a high-fat diet is unknown. With that being said, a high fat diet is perfectly fine.0 -
I lost about 75 of my 96'ish pounds on a low-carb/high fat diet. I've keep it off and lost more on a regular moderate-high carb diet. Low-carb works ONLY because ketosis is an appetite suppressant.
If you overeat on a low-carb diet, you will still gain weight albeit at a slower pace - in my experience anyway.
There are plenty of resources out there.0 -
I want to help. Feel free to give me all your carbs and I will be happy to eat them for you0
-
Low carb (100g approx. 50g +/-) is a much healthier style of eating than high carb IMHO - but hey WWFY.
By lowering your carbs you will control the level of insulin your pancreas secretes into your blood system (good thing). Also I would advice that most of your carbs come from veggies - with a smaller amount coming from fruit.
A higher carb diet eating grains and sugar and processed carbs will increase inflammation and oxidation (the less you overdo of this in your body the better).
Make sure you are eating about 1g of protein per lb of lean mass - you will not need more than this (but more won't hurt you if you have healthy kidneys). get the rest of your calories from fat (just not trans fat - as above this food promotes inflammation and oxidation).
Good luck.0
