BMR is the calories you would burn if you were in a coma. A better method is to calculate your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) and subtract 20% from that. TDEE has to do with the amount of activity you do on a daily basis.

The more important number is your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure). To lose 1 pound a week (3500 calories) you'd want to eat 500 calories under your TDEE every day.

However... you don't want to eat under your BMR (and definitely not under 1200 calories). So exercise may be the only way to make things add up right - then you look at your net calories after exercise. For example if your TDEE is 1500, you want to net 1000 but not eat under 1234. So you eat 1400, burn 400 with exercise to net at 1,000.

The other option is to lose 1/2 a pound a week, if you're not into exercising that much. That way you'd only need to net 250 calories under your TDEE every day. Whatever works for you.

    Hope that helps! Good luck!
