needing motivation and supporters. new to health and fitness

Just wanted to introduce my self. I am 41 years old and this is the first time that I have really been trying to get fit and healthy. I could really use some advice on anything you have for me. I currently weigh 212lbs. I have lost 8 pounds in about 3 wks. I am going to our small community gym. It has an eliptical trainer, a couple of treadmills, stationary bikes and a ski machine. We also have a boflex machine. Not much but it is something. I have started working on the eliptical and have made it to a mile and half. I walk 1-2 miles on treadmill and about 20 min on ski machine. My daughter has me doing squats, lunches, ball crunches,planks,v-up and bicycle crunches. I have been going to the gym at least 6 days of the week. This is hard for me but I am determined to lose this weight. Feel free to add me as a friend. I could use all the help, motivation and advice I can get. I also want to add that I am diabetic and trying to change my lifestlye so I will be around for a longtime for my family.

It sounds like you're already making great progress!

My advice to you would be to get into food logging and calorie tracking since a calorie deficit is the only way to actually lose weight. Make sure you're logging every thing you eat!

Sounds like you have the working out portion down. The hardest part really is the eating portion. My biggest tip I think is not to totally cut anything out especially something you love. You really can eat whatever you want its just all about portion control. And to have portion control you MUST track what your putting into your body.

    Best of luck!!
  • In addition to what has already been said about logging your food/keeping a food diary, I would say to buy a good digital food scale and anything you can weigh in grams or ounces, do! It helps so much!!!! You are doing wonderfully on your exercise, but don't start an exercise routine you can't maintain. Do what you KNOW you can do every week long term. That's my advice! :)

 If you'd like to add me as a friend, please go ahead, and leave me a little message about why you want to be my friend, just so I know you're serious. I want to get into more exercise, and you seem to have it well under way. I could only repeat what has been said, if you want to lose weight you'll have to log your food. Good luck.
