Hey everyone,
So this is my 2nd time trying out MYFITNESSPAL, and although I have lost about 10 lbs since my last login, I feel like I am lacking in motivation. So Im wondering what is everyones different techniques of staying motivated towards their goals and resisting temptation? Every morning I wake up thinking this is the day I am going to change my life, my eating habits and get into an exercise regimen...but I fail! I get lazy and instead of taking care of business for my health I just chill with my bf and 8 month old daughter. Its just so hard sometimes!! So what are some of your motivational techniques when it comes to weightloss and resisting cravings and temptations??
-yours truly

The first thing I did was take "Before" photos.
Then I started with just walking...outside, or using Leslie Sansone's workouts on Youtube.
I also did a little bit of 30 Day Shred.
I get bored easily lol...So I have to change it up often:laugh:
As for diet...I was REALLY strict..then fell off the wagon for a few months...gaining 8 lbs back...But in the last week or so have lost 4 of the lbs!...I have to tell myself ALL the time..slow and steady wins the race..Find what works for you...even if you have to try a few things first
As for motivating myself...I want to feel and look good in clothes...have energy to play with my kids...and have a long HEALTHY life!:happy:0 -
Set a goal outfit hanging outside your closet door. If you have no closet, put a nail on the wall and hang it on that. (With hanger, too of course).
Set a goal. A realistic goal of where you should be in x amount of time and do some research so you know how much time you should take to get there.
Watch that sodium.. It can be butt.0 -
Sex. It is much better after a workout. And it is a hell of a lot better when you're in shape.0

You have to REALLY want it.....You WILL do it when you are ready.....It is mind over matter....0

......or just life is better when you're healthy. When you actually get into the habit of exercising, GOSH do you feel it! The first week or two is hell, but once you start to reap the physical benefits, you start to look forward to it. At least, that's been my experience, and the experience my friends have had. It's just a matter of trudging through those first weeks. The same goes for eating more clean foods as well: the more you incorporate fruits, veggies, whole grains, lean proteins, etc. the more you feel it!
Sometimes motivation is just sucking it up, to obtain what you want to obtain. Nothing worth having really comes without at least a bit of struggle, you know?! Best of luck!!0 -

I think this is the primary reason for weight loss/maintenance failure. Fitness and health must be a priority in your life if it's going to stick. You have to want it more than you want the alternative. The status quo is pretty comfortable for people. It's what they know. They may think they want to change, but they may also fear change or fear the potential for failure that change brings. It's that voice in your head that says, "Why bother if I'm just gonna fail again?"
If you have no motivation to change, why would you? Figure out WHAT you want to change and WHY you want to change, and then determine how important that is for you. What are the benefits? What are the drawbacks? List these things and really consider them. You may not yet be ready to make a lifestyle change. I don't think you can force it.
Once you figure out what you want for your life and for your future, and you've set some goals, your level of motivation may rise naturally. Setting small, frequent goals that are challenging, but still fairly easy to achieve gives you little rewards along the way to keep you moving towards your big goals.
I don't have any tricks, because I'm intrinsically motivated, so I don't require outside incentives for things like this. It just feels good to me to be healthy. I'm proud of myself. My advice for you, though, is to avoid failure by setting realistic goals, being patient (it takes time) and not TORTURING yourself by restricting or eliminating the things you love. You want to be healthy and fit, but you don't want to suffer (and you really don't have to) to get there and stay there! If you want to keep it off, whatever you do to lose the weight needs to be something you are willing and able to do for life. If you're miserable and it's hard, you're not gonna stick with it.
Good luck! :drinker:0 -

You need to WANT it.
My motivation is to not hide from photos, so my babies have something to look back on. There are about 2 or 3 nice pictures of me with my babies (I had twins, they are almost 15mths old now).
I also want to be able to keep up with them! Once your little one is walking, they will want to explore the world around them. I don't want to go to the park and just sit while they play, I need to be able to chase them down when they run in 2 different directions! :-D
I want to feel attractive again, so my husband doesn't feel like he's a madman all on his own, telling me I'm beautiful and sexy. He deserves better, my girls deserve better and so do I.
I started by just focusing on my diet, taking it meal by meal, snack by snack, hour by hour. Then I added walking a few days a week. Now when I walk my dig 3 x week, I do the same distance and time it. I try to get faster, week by week, then will add more distance.
Find your reason then go for it. :-)0 -

it doesn't sound like you are failing. it sounds like you aren't even trying.
go try. seriously, 99% of this is just trying.
tips and tricks for motivation? i personally like signing up for races because it gives me a specific time and date to be ready on.
struggling to get out and work out? well, get dressed in work out clothes, and that way at some point during the morning or whatever, when you have nothing that needs immediate attention, you look down at yourself and go "well, i didn't get dressed for nothing."0
